I won't share what we pay unless they want to divulge, but I partner with a fellow admin on an nvme VPS and it's the best decision we could have made. It's costing me a little less than when I was paying for a standard SSD vps alone, we have everything we need and the server is blazing fast!
As for paying more or less than when I started, I'm paying more, but I started this hosting my own forum in 2001 on a basic shared plan, lol. I did eventually work my way up to a full dedicated server at one point, that was overkill, but it was great experience, but I'm very happy with where I am now.
I am not sure as to the hosting plan I have, but I pay about $6 a month for my hosting and that's it.. and I pay about $20 a year for 2 domains.. and it is more than what I payed when I first started out, because from 2004-2014, I was on free hosts..
I've been paying around $200.00 a month for my two VPS servers for quite a while now. I make more than that with my monetized websites so that isn't too big of an issue. I can even afford to go up a few hundred dollars if needed so I have some room to grow.
In reality, my servers are bigger than what I actually need. But I want plenty of room so that when things go viral, which they do from time to time, my servers can handle it.
I currently pay $84 yearly for my hosting. I currently have Hostinger's business shared hosting at the moment, I don't know if I ever will upgrade to a VPS. I'm ditching Ionos because they're getting to be too expensive. I still need to move Blue Hedgehog over to Hostinger then I will cancel my Ionos hosting. I also have a vBulletin cloud hosting account which I pay yearly for and it will renew for $180. (Well if they don't get around to migrating my forum from phpBB to their cloud hosting soon, I will cancel... Sucks since I really wanted Free to Be us on vBulletin but I can't wait around too much longer.)
Right now, my blog is hosted for free but they have a paid option. How much you want to pay depends on which plan you choose, first of all. Also, I think they give you discount if you pay yearly instead of monthly.
