How To Make People Know More About Your Forum

If people don't know anything about your forum without any traces of a description then they obviously aren't going to sign up for it.

So I've piled up a list of what you could do to make people know about your site:

• Make a home page. A home page will let users see who's online and see the news. The home page could include a big sign telling users to sign up(Insert your sites perks for signing up here) and give links to important pages of your site and who you are.
• If your site doesn't have a home page and you want to do that later then make a post in the 'General Discussion' or 'Announcements' board of your forum. Tell your users who you are and what the forum is about.
• If you haven't done the two above then maybe try going onto forums that let you promote your own forum. Tell the users on that forum who you are and what the forum is about.
• If you want to be a small forum and keep it between your friends then tell them about it and what it is.

You have to hold their hands and show them why it’s so important to you and what's the forum about. Like making an short video about your forum that can be uploaded to YouTube. Guided video course about how to use your forums best, Most forum software packages have advanced features that are key to getting the most out of participating in a community. Notifications, search, private messaging, signatures and other features might seem self explanatory to you, but many people have never used forums before.

Spend allot of good time in the community yourself, as an admin or an team member they should spend as much time, when someone posts in the forums and doesn’t receive a reply, it’s like your community gets a little cut. One cut doesn’t matter too much, but if this continues, your forum will eventually suffer death from a thousand cuts. Another idea is to promote members of your community to special positions, like VIP ranks and offering things that other members don't get, Doesn't have to be paid VIP ranks

You're right. Making a welcome post or even a video is a great way to introduce yourself and your forum. Owners, Administrators and other team members should spend time with the community too.

Of course, it is sad when a post doesn't get noticed and has no replies, only to be discovered years later and the person who posted that has left or had their account deleted and moved onto something a lot better.

A lot of damage to a forum can also bring down an entire community. Even a caring and friendly community, someone can just enter and destroy the goodwill of the forum.

Forums are something that should go on for years and years. In fact, some forums have been around for more 10 - 15 years now and are still going which is crazy(including this forum).

You're right. Making a welcome post or even a video is a great way to introduce yourself and your forum. Owners, Administrators and other team members should spend time with the community too.

All admins should spend the time to get to know there members, Not just being in the back.

Of course, it is sad when a post doesn't get noticed and has no replies, only to be discovered years later and the person who posted that has left or had their account deleted and moved onto something a lot better.

Every site going to get that problem when they are running the site. Just hard to keep it going. Also to mention that is not good for the staff to keep on posting

Social media can be one good place to tell others about your forum. I have seen some users also promoting their forum on sites like hashnode, quora, stackoverflow etc. And that works out for them depending on the niche. But I'd say you have to constantly reach out to new users.

Yeah, a lot of people do that. But sites like StackOverflow are for programming related topics.
