It was about time, as I was getting sick by my computer freezing and getting errors in games I play, which cause me alot of time loss. Anyway yesterday after a very long time I did a virus scan that lasted 12 hours or so and cleaned some bad stuff up.

It's bad not to do it daily. You could have had something that tracks your info on your computer and sends it to an outside source without your knowing.

Keyloggers, all of those, that could have really screwed things up, so to be safe I would (I do) scan each night. I leave my PC running.

1,339,576 files, no wonder it took 12 hours to scan. I also agree that you should run your virus scanner more often, but not the every night suggestion. I suggest atleast once a month.

You should do virus scan at least once week. After I got over 100 virus that destroyed my compute, I do small/fast virus scan everyday and a big one every Saturday. I also use other programs like CCleaner to delete files that I don’t need.

I have not had any viruses since I got this netbook, running AVG. 🙂

AVG is good software.

I run AVG Free edition and Zone Alarm firewall. Those two keep me pretty clean. I'll run Spybot Search&Destroy every once in a while.

Yeah, I run AVG Free, Malwarebytes Anti-malware, and Windows Firewall.

Oy vey. A few weeks ago I had to reinstall windows on my Mom's computer. It went quick though. hah I'm pretty sure one of my parents opened a bad email and that's how the worm got in... It was terrible. Programs kept closing out and screen resolution kept going to the lowest. It scared me so bad that I run AVG every night on her computer and mine. So I'm just paranoid. Once a week at least sounds reasonable.

I try to do a full computer scan each night. 🙂 Usually I will not forget.

I have my AVG set to where it automatically scans my cp each night. 🙂

I have my AVG going every second day. With two accounts (Mine and administration/backup) it takes a couple of hours if that.

I recommend using Microsoft Security Essentials. It works pretty good. Nice and fast and protective.

Indeed, MS SE is one of the fastest antiviruses I ever used. I also heard using a browser add-on like MyWOT, Mcafee Site Advisor, or Norton Safe Web http://safeweb.norton.com/lite can prevent you from visiting dangerous websites which look like safe websites.

I have 10 Mil + on my Laptop and Work Computer both finish scanning within 45 minutes. How much RAM do you have OP? I would recommend doing a Disk Cleanup using Microsoft's tool every so often to get rid of un-needed cache.

You may want to also run a MalwareBytes scan, it catches the stuff other virus software has left.
