I moved on October 22nd from Proboards to PHPbb3, so about 3 weeks ago. Proboards unfortunately deleted my forum (don't know how they found out). I've been able to e-mail my members to let them know that they can either try to reset their password on the new board or e-mail me with their username so I or one of my 3 moderators can forward them their password (it's possible since we are still a small community of just over 700 members). I love PHPbb3 and my new host is StableHost and it cost less to have a host then to have Proboards. I was paying them $7.99 to $15.98 a month for adfree and $14.99 a year to have my domain name pointed to their nameservers. My host is running a 50% coupon if you pay the entire year and my package cost a whopping $33 dollars for the entire year and no ads and faster load! :cheer: Fortunately, I started my forum on January 6th of this year and had my grand opening a week later so I was with Proboards a little more than 9 months and my forum just had it's 10th months anniversary.

I knew I made a mistake within the 1st month of having Proboards since their advert gave 2 of my members computer viruses so I've been paying them for adfree since the beginning of February (bought it a week before January ended but waited to apply them to February and so on). In fact they deleted my forum with 28 credits still to apply ($32 - the cost of my entire shared hosting package for the year) and I don't know should I pursue a refund!

I started with Mighty Gordon's Black Pearl Style (modify to suit my forum of course - change the graphics and all the colors) but some of my members complained about the dark style so a week later we unveiled a 2nd style, a light one call Red Steel (modified again to suit our forum). Red Steel is trumping Black Pearl as the default style on a poll that we are running on the site so me and the moderators decided to make Red Steel the default style while we wait for the conclusion of the poll that set to run for 20 days. You can see the 2 styles by going to the portal and on the right hand top, you'll see Board Style and members and guests can flip between both styles.

Not a good choice.

Go to support.proboards.com and ask them for the reason why your board was deleted. They'll tell you to probably fix a TOS issue or password. If youu agree, you get your forum back. Very Simple 🙂

Believe me, I asked and quoting Ricky:
The forum appears to have been removed from service due to a violation of the terms of service agreement. Sorry

He then went to tell me that since no warning was sent that he unfortunately unable to bring back my forum.

Anyone paying Proboards for adfree don't realize that they come ahead better on a shared hosting service and they have access to their database. Proboards depends on people like me with lack of knowledge and never having a forum before to take advantage of. Through my own hard work and effort that I build my community to over 700 members in 9 months despite Proboards, it had nothing to do with them. And I pay them each month for adfree and still they think making a copy of my database is cause to delete my forum while they pocket the remaining of my adfree credits. That's one the reason, I moved my forum, the past few months, I've read of quite a few forums that Proboards decided to delete like they were on a power trip.

First of all, it's your fault for breaking the TOS.

Anyone who kindly asked for a chance to fix their forum (during the last few months) got it.

Proboards TOS said that I'm allowed to backup my forum, in fact they specifically said it was up to us to backup our forum in the thread were members lost a bunch of their posting a few months ago when one of their servers went down. In fact I was one of them and they brought my forum back 29 days earlier (claims that was the latest backup they had in their system). Yes, I was angry. In fact after that episode is when I started searching for ways to backup my forum on the net. What started innocently enough as an mean to not have to go through that again is when I discovered that I can move from them.

I agree with Joshua. Your problem was so bad that you couldn't fix it yourself.

If you make the same mistake with your new forum, you won't get a TOS violation. You'll get in trouble with the law.

What are you talking about? I have access to my database in my new forum. I can move it anyplace I want. What law are you rumbling about? I'm at lost to what law I broke. I made a backup of my data using a script. I then went ahead and loaded that data (only the data) to another software, the Proboards board was left intact. It's not agaisnt any law to backup your data, I did not break into Proboards database. From the way you're talking about the law, you're acting like I hacked their system or something! Emphasizing on the data belongs to me and my members, all Proboards was doing was displaying it and now I choose PHPbb3 to display it. And yes, I can move to Mybb tomorrow and take my data with me and I can guarantee you that I will not get in trouble with the law!
