I need opinions on my next forum idea

There's a lot of different types of forums out there you can have. But I think it's all mainly based on personal preference or what interests you. Here are a few different types of forums out there that you might like to consider.
=> General Discussion
=> Gaming
=> Webmaster
=> Role Play
=> TV/Movie Based

I'll be blunt; don't start anything.
If you don't have the slightest clue of what you're even going to do, how would you be able to stand out from the sea of thousands of mediocre websites that already exist? You need something new, something that will gather interested people - and if you don't even have an idea on the general subject, you sure don't have that most important part either.

Posting here for feedback and help is great, but you've got to at least have some idea of what you want help with. The FP community is starting this forum - you're starting this forum. Figure this out before ever involving anyone else.

For a general niche I'd turn towards a religion of my choosing, pray a little and maybe sacrifice a goat or two. You're not going to get that out there very easily, because there are way, way, way too many of those already for anyone to actually be interested to join in.
If you're going to do some sort of advices, you might seriously be better off with starting a blog, and adding up a forum as a side project later on if you happen to make it big enough.

Sorry, but you're not going to succeed with just those two subjects. Start a blog.
If you're going to start something make it unique.
There are million's of forum's make one that will stand out, one that you have not seen before.
Grab a good domain name, a premium theme and get it going.

It doesn't hurt to at least try. I think modern tools have made it much more convenient to generate custom themes. Start off with swapping images and colors, and just go from there!drucrazy said:

Yea it's easy to take an existing theme and just rewrite a bit of code, but making your own from scratch... I personally would rather pay someone to do it, I feel that if I touch any bit of code it will just break everything.
