I have an HP Envy x360 & Samsung 740U Touch Screen laptop. I need to choose which one I want to keep.

I got the 740U today because the fan on my HP was being really loud and Geek Squad offered to give it to me as a loaner but they sold it to me when they did so I'm going to sell the one I don't keep.

I did a factory reset on my HP and the fan is fine now. Tested it out using the exact game (The Sims 4) that it was happening before.

Here are the specs of each computer-

HP-
  • Touch Screen + 360 flip (15.6)
  • Intel i7-6560 @ 2.20GHZ (Quad Core)
  • Intel Iris Graphics 540
  • 12GB RAM (11.9 Usable; why?)
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 2 USB Ports + 1 USB-C Port
  • HDMI Port & SD Card Slot
Samsung 740U -
  • 360 Flip & Touch Screen (15.6)
  • 12GB RAM
  • Intel i7 6500U @ 2.50GHZ (Quad Core)
  • NVIDIA GeForce 940MX
  • 2 USB Ports + 1 USB-C Port
  • SD-Card Slot & HDMI Port & Ethernet Port
Here is what I like about each...

HP-

  • Better Screen (resolution & Color temperature to be exact)
  • Better luck with HP Computers in the past; never have tried Samsung though my ASUS was horrible.
  • The samsung seems to lag more on simple tasks than the HP. So less lag.
  • function keys work more reliably than the Samsung.
Samsung-

  • Better Graphics Processor for gaming & IT
  • Clickier keys (better for typing); more spaced out keys
  • Has fn lock key which is useful
So, there you have it. Which would you choose? Which should I sell? Please help! Thanks in advance.

P.S. I posted this to reddit as well. I just copied and pasted it.

It comes down to your decision and what's the best option for yourself that you feel comfortable with 🙂

If it was me then I keep both 🙂 however if you need to money then you will get more for the Samsung then the HP. HP offers better brand and support then Samsung, yet Samsung offers better GPU then the HP.

Also think about this option! how old is your HP? and how long would it last for compared to the samsung

I think I'd personally keep the Samsung, just based off of what you said in this post. I don't know the weight, drive, or age specs, though, so I'm not sure I could make an informed decision.

I'd keep whichever one's lighter and looks better, personally.

Are you sure you can get much money from the one you're going to sell? Computers aren't worth much these days, especially used ones from private sellers. Why not keep one as a backup?

You can always keep on of them then upgrade your PC with SSD and whatnot

Keep the Samsung. Simply on the basis of integrated graphics vs 940m....Not to mention you can get a windows 10 key for 30 bucks...

Got the HP in August. Only difference in the HP I have and the HP Best Buy is selling now is the new one has 4 extra gb of RAM and newer version of the i7 processor.

That is so true. A lot of people are telling me to keep both but I don't think I have any use for 2 laptops... Maybe to replace my desktop with one? Aka the Samsung would replace my desktop... Hm...

How about the hard drives? Solid state or spinning drives?

Spinning but the Samsung is advertised (just looked yesterday) to have the ability to upgrade it to an SSD. I didn't see anything (an open port or anything) for my HP when Geek Squad opened the back of it.

Age... computer is new.. still being sold in Best Buy. Weight is 5lbs (I think) while my HP is 2-3lbs...

Those are the laptops for reference.

I would go for the HP with Windows10 but it all depends on your choice.

They both have Windows 10... I guess I forgot to include that in my OP.

That would be the HP. Hm...

True.

Looks like I could get around $500...

Not sure if that is worth it though... I could always just return it to Best Buy. I have 30 days.

True.

EDIT: I'm trying it out. https://twitter.com/DudeThatsErin/status/836964352645296128
Looking at notebook fans now, in case, I fall in love with the idea.

Yes, desktop is still hooked up to my TV so I technically have 3 computers right now.

Keep the Samsung. Simply on the basis of integrated graphics vs 940m....Not to mention you can get a windows 10 key for 30 bucks...

It has Windows 10. Not sure why I didn't include that in OP.

That is so true. Graphics does look better on the Samsung.

I would recommend the Samsung due to the higher performance. The problems you have with it could possibly be fixed by either getting a new keyboard for the function keys or if it's loaded with bloatware getting rid of that may help too.
I'm not 100% on there but there may also be a program built in to adjust screen colour/temperature. (I know on my Asus there is... It's called Asus Splendid. Samsung may have something similar to that.)

One thing you may want to look into is giving the Samsung a pass through with something like PC Decrapifier. Unfortunately buying a new system means dealing with the bloatware they pack in. And it's not like reinstalling the OS via the methods they give (like a restore DVD or partition) will do you any good either. Any bloatware that Samsung packs in (and they do) gets reinstalled also. These programs can affect performance of your system enough to really make a difference. So it's likely worth your time to clean out the bloatware.

Trying that out now. Also waiting on the anniversary update to install. It is still downloading but at 100%.
