Do you really think the gangs are going to turn in their guns? That's a no. So gun violence won't end, especially in the big cities where the gangs are running things and fighting among one another.
This has already been "tested" in third world, Socialist countries. This ideal is literally a Socialist's wet dream.
In Japan, there is little to no guns carried. Result? Shinzo Abbe was shot and killed. The person was arrested, but in this case, there was only one person who apprehended the suspect. He has a gun, but didn't use it. The suspect had a ghost gun, but the bodyguard had a real gun, and didn't use it towards the suspect.
In China, there is little to NO guns. Police don't even carry guns, unless they need to use it for force. Guess what? No guns? Well, knives. SWORDS. AND they don't even care if the person is killed. If you interfere with an argument... YOU go to jail. Woman sexually assaulted? Interfere and YOU go to jail. For basic human decency.
They took away guns in Mexico. But there is shootings everyday. Cartels control turfs. Police/Military do battle Cartels. But when they don't? That particular president is corrupt and will kiss a Cartel's ass.
Cuba? Venezuela? Puerto Rico? Honduras?
All have similar issues. I traveled to Puerto Rico and Honduras. I know how it is.
Defend. The. Second. Amendment. Or... be. like. them.
We're never getting rid of guns in America. Even if they were to be banned all together, people will find ways to obtain them illegally anyways. Plus literally anything can be used as a weapon, and you'll be taking away protection from those who are responsible gun owners.
I believe in our Constitution & Amendments. Don't tamper with something hundreds of years old. If people don't like guns, then don't have one. However, don't prohibit others from having one.
There will always be guns out there. People have a right to defend themselves.
On another note, if they abolished one Amendment, don't think they wouldn't try to abolish others.
I agree with "Carlos X" above. I would like to add as he said it has been proven not to work in different countries. The big thing that aggravates me with certain ideology; a lot of people think that getting rid of the guns is the solution. But I always think of a scenario - what if you are standing in a store, and someone walks in to rob the place. Now, in most cases a police officer will take 2-5 minutes to respond, depending on the city. If you are out in the country it can be 10 minutes before response. Now with that being said, lets take into consideration that there is a possibility of someone conceal carrying in the store near you. If something dramatic changes, and they need to intervene, they can save yours and everybody else's life in seconds. Simply put - at the end of the day, the bad guys will still get a gun. They are not going to care if we "outlaw" gun sales, or prohibit anyone from owning a firearm. If we take firearms from law-abiding citizens, we are just putting more and more people at risk in the general public.
A big problem is trusting the government. Since I don't trust them totally, I wouldn't want gun rights taken away. Anyway, I'm not a big gun nut, but it's nice to know they are legal.
