Then stop complaining and register and help out! Registering only takes but a few minutes and it doesn't take that long to post and at least start trying to blend in with the community. I say this because I have a member on another forum I'm promoting at who's constantly biting our heads off because Chatting Time isn't active enough to his liking, when he doesn't realize that we are barely a year old yet and still trying to get our name out there and become known. I remember when Ashley.S. had Entertainment Avenue. I was a co-admin on there for a brief period, and I recall their growth rate being about the same as what CT is currently doing now. Only two or three people posting at one time. You don't see me complaining about this. I for one actually prefer smaller forums over bigger ones because it gives a person more of a chance to get to know a person on a more personal level, and truly make them feel welcome. Another thing we're being pestered about by the same guy is the theme. Chatting Time is in a feature/design freeze at the moment, which means we probably will not change the theme until phpBB 3.1.x comes out, because heaven forbid, they'll stop support for themes that were compatible for 3.0.8 and earlier releases, they usually do.

So really, if you're that concerned about a forum's activity level, then join up and make a few posts... it's that simple!

Sorry, had to vent on that one! Just pisses me off is what it's doing.

Forums become stagnant and stale after a while.

Refusing to make any changes because you are waiting for a software update with no release date makes little sense. It could be next week or it could be next year.
A little google search brought up this topic: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=2132654
Jun 20, 2011 Question: Will phpbb 3.1 be release soon?
Answer: Most likely not

What harm could adding another feature or theme do? If its not supported later on in different versions.. Oh well. That will be an opportunity to add NEW stuff yet again, which is a good thing.
Or perhaps before adding a new feature, ask the mod creator if they plan to release an update for the new version of the software.
Adding a new skin and then possibly losing it (having to replace it with something else) later on is not really a big deal at all.
Admin's need to keep the forum fresh, be flexible and meet the demands/needs of the community or at least try to compromise.

Ashley is venting about one person maybe if 50 people said something would be a good idea. Then make the change. No admin can make everyone happy.

Paine is right. We only had one person complaining about this, not 50. If it was over half the forum complaining, then yes we would change stuff around sooner rather than later. But as we haven't gotten any complaints other than that one, we are not changing anything anytime soon.

Having an inactive forum should give you inspiration to make some changes.

Actually, you're probably right. We've been using the same theme for almost a year now, and despite the fact that this forum has used the same theme for three years, I know I'd like to see some changes, that's for sure. At least a new theme if nothing else. I'll bring something up in our staff room and see what goes.

Chatting Time looks great Ashley, be proud of what you have achieved with it and don't worry about what someone who is not a member says about it. Obviously that doesn't mean to say that you should not continue to work to make it even better. Be proud of what you have achieved and continually strive to be the best you can be.

When a forum of mine becomes inactive I try a few tacticts to revive it, but if they don't work then I rely on promoting and members liking the site so they join. If someone is unhappy with the activity, then they can join or shut their trap because they have the power to do something about it.

Thanks Fergal. We are already taking the next step to make CT look even better! Just this weekend we have added two new themes! I'm also excited because I have my first ever dark theme on any of my forums! So we are actually proud of our site and we are so darn close to hitting 10k posts and 1k topics. This was actually our goal for New Year's Eve 2011, but it looks like we could end up meeting that goal far sooner than planned, which is awesome!

As most of you all ready know, I'm already promoting this site a numerous forums. Have been for almost 11 months. It's been a wild ride but I enjoy it immensely.
