What do you do?
I mocked the sender, and doubted that the claim of stealing members was illegal (which I didn't do).
 
Ignore it, don't go to the kid's level, once he notices that he ain't getting the attention seeked he will go disturb someone else.

It's illegal to steal users? Hmmm, that's actually really interesting, I hope all the major companies who run paid advertising trying to get people to switch from their competition to their own services are aware of this law.

Honestly speaking i'd find it rather fun to toy with them. The very first thing i'd do is check into the email headers, run a traceroute on their IP, and Google for their local information. I'd then reply with something along the lines of;

I've contacted your local police department, ~~~~, and spoke to the Chief Officer myself. He agrees with my argument that this is not illegal, and assures me if you are to call him he will relay the same information to you. Thanks for the time you took to email me, but next time please make sure your threats can actually be fulfilled. Have a nice day =))

Well if I'm being truly honest, I would laugh very, very hard. It is not illegal to 'steal members'
and if you didn't then there is nothing to worry about. That is actually classed as a 'threat', so they
should be the ones to watch out. Also the last sentence was a personal favorite.
 
Ask them to MSN me, then make fun of them. After that, I would get on webcam and shout "THIS...IS...SPARTA!!!!!!!!!" in their face.

I would ignore it. Don't even respond to it. Just automatically delete it. Honestly, by advertising, you are not "stealing" members as this kid claims. What he doesn't seem to realize that there are a lot of forums like yours out there. When Chatting Time got hacked, someone asked me about the stupid porn site it was redirected to, and he asked me if I liked those kind of sites. Now, would I have a rule about porn in my rules if I liked those kind of sites? Probably not. And I told him this straight out. He then said that I was just asking for trouble claiming my site got hacked/cracked, and that I probably did it myself just to gain attention, when I know nothing about CSS or HTML to even know where to start when cracking a site, and even if I did, I would never go about doing so. Finally he said something to me and I didn't even respond. Just deleted his message. He hasn't contacted me since. Honestly, don't give these kinds of people attention. They'll do anything to make you upset and make you want to give up. The kid in question did almost just that with me when he talked about that porn/video site, making me feel guilty about my site being hacked/cracked, like it was my fault, and it wasn't. So the bottom line is, don't even respond to these emails. Just automatically delete them. By the way, the story I told you about, the one with the email I recieved, is a true story. In fact, it just happened last night.
 
Laugh then post it on another forum for other people to laugh at as well.

Meh, toy with him/her and see where it gets you, so long as you know you're doing everything legally etc.

We have stolen 6,166 members here. We have stole them from other forums, Google and directories. Also we have stole people from their own forums.

Fergal better watch out, the police will be knocking his door down at 4am some point soon :lol:

I would just give the email a sarcastic reply and then ignore any reply i get back.
 
Hmmm... it seems that out of everyone here, i'd take it the most extreme >.>

Meh, some things never change =)
