Hey guys,

So it is time for upgrade season, and I'm completely baffled on what choice to make regarding my next Cell Phone. I really could use the help of others to decide this. Here are the two phones I am looking at:

Motorola Moto X 32 GB - http://www.motorola.com/us/FLEXR1-1/Moto...
Apple iPhone 5S 32 GB - http://www.apple.com/iphone-5s/

Here's the issue. I currently have an iPhone 4S, and I'm not exactly satisfied. I am on my 3rd iPhone. The first two were replaced under warranty (with major headaches from Sprint, but eventually, for free). The first one completely and randomly died on me in iOS 5, and then the 2nd one lost WiFi connectivity after upgrading to iOS 6. Now, in iOS 7 , I'm not a huge fan of it. My phone seems to crash so often, and dies at 25% (I credit this to an old phone, but I do think part of it is still iOS 7). I really don't care for some aspects of the interface, especially Safari. I'm ready for a new adventure - Android. I constantly hear about how much better it is because it is Open-Source, and isn't so locked up. I hate how locked up my iPhone is. I like how Android also seems more techy, and a little bit more complex. But, I'm worried about switching simply because it doesn't have iPhone's best feature, iMessage. I love how iMessage allows me to tell when some has read or is responding to my texts, and more important, it allows me to be a part of Group Messages. Additionally, I'm concerned about Android - does it have an ability to track and ring my phone like iCloud/Where's my Phone? does?

Long story short, I wanted some opinions regarding these two phones, and which one would be best for me by looking at the above. I'll sum it up real quick:

Moto X:
Pros: Android, Cool color customization, Heard good things regarding Motorola's support, really nice design, love the voice control on it. New OS to learn.
Cons: Weak Camera, lack of iMessage like features that are integrated via texting. Also, not top specs.

iPhone 5s:
Pros: Familiar, relatively reliable, good apps, iMessage / Group Messaging, Fingerprint scanner
Cons: Boring OS (to me), Stale, Locked up, Expensive

So I wanted a vote on these choices. If you could give an unbiased vote and reason why, that would be great!

Thanks for the input!

I would prefer the iPhone 5S with the 64bit CPU, and improve graphics for playing the latest mobile games like Infinity Blade 3 which is only available for iOS.

The Moto X uses a Dual-Core CPU which is okay for most tasks, but there are faster Quad Core CPU Android phones like the LG Nexus 5 with s quadcore CPU and Adreno 330 Graphics Chips, and 2GB of ram, 16-32GB of storage which you can buy unlocked for $349 at https://www.google.com/nexus/5/ which is cheaper than buying an Unlocked Moto X on sites like eBay where they can cost 420 dollars and more.

Thanks for the response! I did find that interesting. Right now, I'm leaning on buying the iPhone 5S I think.

I would buy the iPhone. I love its design and it is very powerful. Moto X is just an ordinary cell phone. Yeah, the price is a big problem, but I am pretty sure that you will love it. I usually choose my cell phone by paying attention to the camera and other features.

I would suggest against the iPhone, why? Because in all honestly it's not that great. If you're able to wait, get something cheapish like the Moto G (it's like a Moto X just a little bit less powerful) and then go for the iPhone 6 when it comes out next year. Seriously, don't buy the iPhone 5s, because the iPhone 6 is rumoured to be actually quite good (assuming Apple remember to innovate for the first time in iPhone history).

So my suggestion is wait; the iPhone 6 could be the first iPhone which catches up to the competition! The iPhone 5s is nice, but it's just a glorified iPhone 5. My friends who bought the iPhone 5s are complaining that they got fooled into buying an iPhone 5 by Apple they saw no real benefit with the iPhone 5s (considering technological advancements between the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4.)

I would get it. 🙂 Unless, you want to hold out for 8 months to wait for the 6.

Apple's support is the best out there no doubt about it. And plus, you got me if you ever need any help. 🙂

The 5S was actually quite impressive in once again surpassing the competition. 64-bit and the fingerprint scanner that actually works has all of the manufactures catching up.

The battery dying at 25% seems to be gone with the 5S. I had a similar issue with my 5, but now that I have the 5S it is gone.

What I would recommend is either getting the 5S, or using your 4S for another 8 or so months. If you choose the 2nd option, Please do a restore and hopefully that will fix your problems. iOS 7.1 is on the way as well.

The LG Nexus 5 is a powerhouse, plus it runs stock KitKat. I'd get that if I were you, just continue your current contract and put the SIM card in.

If not, it's obvious the iPhone 5S is the better choice. Apple always makes sure its phone is the most powerful on the market.

Or, you could go with the Samsung Galaxy S3 or S4.

I have the S3, and love it!

I will never get an iPhone. 🙂

I didn't use any of both cell phones. So i can give you better suggestion. But in my opinion iPhone 5S is graceful.
