IPS has opened up new the Invision Community 5 preview site for everyone to use, find bugs and offer feedback. The new preview site has a feedback area and a bug report area, so please use those areas on the preview site, rather than post your thoughts here.

There are two themes currently available. The first is the more 'classic' look that you will find instantly familiar. The second theme has the newer views enabled, such as the sidebar and feed mode for forums. You are welcome to switch between the two, and you can also change the layout options via your account settings. All this information is contained in the welcome topic over there.

Have fun, and please let us know what you think!

how many people/sites would upgrade to the new V5

It looks okay, don't really dig the whole sidebar thing, but with other theme it looks clean. We will see how the things move going forward.

I still prefer XenForo, but IPS would be in second place between all the demos I've tried for IPS, vB, wotlab.

I like it, but I'm pretty happy with my current version and theme. And these days I don't really have the time to upgrade and fix potential bugs, so I will probably wait a while before I upgrade to version 5.

I will at some point, but will let it run for a bit to see if there are any major bugs, and to work into custom features meanwhile. Doing a proper convertion is the wisest thing.

Yeah, My plugins and addons that I have no are no longer supported via there own Devs as they LEFT or life happens and I have a hard time trying to keep that updated on V4 LOL

V5 will defo kill many plugins

From what I have seen of it... I'm fairly impressed with the software.
A competitor that stars with X could take a LOT of lessons... but they won't because their way is the only way.
I have other issues with Invision that are not software related... but if I did not mind being strictly cloud based I could see running it.
But since I do require a long term self-hosted offering it is not on the table for me. And it is really a pity because I did like the older version I ran overall and v5 promises to extend that.

Been running the latest beta's on my production site and it's been a great experience so far. I know, I know that it's not a good thing to run beta software on a production site but, for me it just made sense as the community is still extremely tiny with very little interaction. So, it's a good test run of seeing how v5 runs moving forward plus, the newness of it all made it difficult to say no too lol.

I have not even consider Beta yet hahahahha

Waiting for full release and all addons to work

That's nice. What do you guys think of v5?

All the forums that I've seen so far that have upgraded to v5 looks the same haha, hopefully we'll see some more variations in the website designs soon. 😛

I moved away from Invision after they screwed over lifetime license owners years ago. The fact that they discontinued self hosting licenses will be the final straw for many. Their pricing plans are outrageous.

You got some bad info.

They still have self hosted licenses and there is no announcement that they will be going away anytime soon.

You’re right! I hadn’t noticed the self-hosted option before. My assumption was based on their business model shifting more toward the cloud, especially with certain features being exclusive to cloud hosting. I appreciate the clarification! But again, I personally haven’t used their software since version 3.

They still and always do self-hosting 😉 just that you won't get the full support like they used to. My server is cloud based anyway, but since I still self-host I'm able to have more control, however it's more work and my provider is a BUTT hole that I can't even update to V5

Self-hosting, I say is still cheaper compared to IPS sub
