I notice a lot of free anti-spyware products don't have an active real time protection shield or automatic updates which a lot of paid anti-spyware programs have.

Is it really neccessary to have a computer protected from spyware whenever connected to the internet.

I think it is, but I never got much spyware in the past when I did not have an active real time protection shield using free products which just scans for spyware, but does not actively protects PCs from spyware, malware, and adware like paid products. I only got infected 1-4 times in the past few years which probably would not happen if I had an active anti-spyware shield.

I notice all schools I go to and the few computers I use during volunteering just have anti-virus software, but no paid or free antispyware software.

Yeah it's a pretty good feature, beneficial too... The reason schools only have anti virus software is because all the spyware sites/illegal sites, porn/warez etc are all blocked by the Education of whatever state you are in or whatever, in other words you can't go to a site and get spyware off it if you are on your schools PC 😛.

Couldn't people just bring in a CD or USB drive to install something like Bonzi buddy, Kazaa, imesh, and other somewhat popular spyware trojan program?

I know when I was enrolled in school. I could sometimes installed software that I download, or from my USB drives because the IT dept. did not make computers a limited/standard account. But, with so many budget cut backs at school. I won't be surprised if the school can't afford a corporate/educational instituitional license for every computer.

Well that's true, but not many people do that anyways, since most DVD drives at schools (Mine anyways), don't load any CD's unless you have administrator permissions 🙂. USB drives yeah, but you'd get in alot of trouble anyways it's just not worth it 😛.

Well instead of having maybe different softwares for antivirus and spyware, you could just buy a internet security package thing. I have KIS 7, it's darn good. I don't really think it's necessary if you are careful about what you do online but I just have it the sake of it.
