I ask this question because as of now, we are not using our new laptop for internet since we are still contemplating on what anti-virus to install. So that means our laptop is only for local use or stand-alone. I understand that transporting files can be a way of getting infected but the files are guaranteed clean from our archive disk. Is there a possibility that a virus can infect our laptop?
Yes internet is a big source of spam, malware, adware and various other viruses. So it is always wise to have a registered antivirus installed on your laptop.
Use authentic anti-virus to scan hard-drives regularly, do not download files from suspicious sites, keep your OS updated time to time and scan all the documents before saving in the system.
Internet is the major place you can get virus especially when you download from site you don't know any about. The use of flash drives into your laptop can send virus to your system.
I would have said downloaded files as well but then again you can't download without the internet. Unless it has been saved on a drive or something of the sought. But yeah, i guess the internet is the only way you could acquire a computer virus.
