while I'm all for respecting religions ( not religious myself ) , I've been learning a few of the beliefs held by JW's ..

They are against blood transfusions and apparently should their children ever need one to save their life, their beliefs are so strong as to reject a blood transfusion.

While I don't agree with adultery, their beliefs are to encourage family members of the adulterer to shun the adulterer , other reason why JW's are expected to shun their own family include joining the military, running for a political position amongst others.

I find this abhorrent and very bizarre, members & their children are told not to celebrate Christmas or birthdays either.

I have to agree I find this to be more cult -like 🙁

I thought JW's were supposed to share in the love of God and encourage this to their fellow human beings rather than encourage family members of a disfellowshipped member to shun the disfellowshipped.

Now I know what they stand for I will be quick , but civil in telling them next time they knock at my door that I'm not interested.

JW's are weird, in all honesty. I don't really understand them. They always knock on my door and don't leave until I come to the door.

Hi, we used to have a lady who came regularly who was a JW, we were always nice to her even though she unnecessarily took up our time when we were busy but I never knew what I do now back then, I mean their own website even states that they will disfellowshipped members who smoke and tell members to shun their own family if they smoke!

What kind of religion of God is this?

I'm shocked!

Back when I was in highschool, I grew up with some girls who's family was JW. The girls themselves where normal and fine. I mean, it was not their choice to be in a religion their parents forced them to be in right?

I find this abhorrent and very bizarre, members & their children are told not to celebrate Christmas or birthdays either.
They also can't go out for Halloween or the sorts. I mean, the ONE time they are expected to go knocking door to door LMAO.

Oh no, it's not the kids fault but they must feel confused and indifferent to their friends, colleagues at school, I never meant that not celebrating Christmas or birthdays were abhorrent, I meant the shunning of the disfellowshipped for trivial things like smoking!

Yeah, lol @ the Halloween dress up time when expected to, but what a shame for the kids with the indifference which can & does make many of these kids with JW parents a target for other school kids.

I'm not into this, I do respect them and I let them be. But there mind is not where you think it is and if you not careful how you talk to them then things will start to go down and well you get the blame.

I seen people like that around in my day but I just keep walking pass since I don't deal with that.

Yet I do feel sorry for kids and other family and friends that have no choice

I personally find it a little bit sad. They can't celebrate Christmas, Birthdays, Easter, Halloween and are against many everyday things like blood transfusions. And they don't stop knocking and ringing our bell until we ask them to politely leave :|
