Let's compile a list of things NEVER to do on forums!

9. Never accuse a user of having an alt. account without checking the IP addresses first.

ok ive done this check thing & im so close to saying something now
someone claims to be from Wales but IP check shows they are from England. The said person dosnt do anything wrong in fact they are one of the few people who actually helps. Anyway the prob is i think this person is what i called " my stalker " .So any ideas on how to deal with this ?

It can be possible for your IP to say that you are from somewhere you are not. Mine never says where i actually live... My current Ip says i am from Burnley... I live miles away from there.

phpBB3 Admins -- Disable the Moderator Banning Module. Often i see Moderators jump at the chance to use their "new powers". In fact, just last week a Moderator on a board i use banned a new member for making an introductory post in the wrong section. ~eeeek~

Wow thats a bit of a power trip

I think it'd be better advice to just be really careful with who you chose to be a moderator.

Your staff should be people you trust, not just random people. If you can't trust them with that power, find someone who you can trust to moderate.

That's my take on it.

1. Never make the board invisible to guests. They may think you're trying to hide someting embarrasing, like the admins and mods having a huge chunk of the posts, low ppm (posts per member), etc.

aw man ;( most of my forums invisible to guests haha but not cos its embarassing i just hate guests milling around annoying and i do a few of the others too damn haha 😳

Normally I give my Moderators full permissions when choosing them, but our board is extremely strict with putting Moderators into the position. Our Staff have a forum just for making topics on choosing them. 😀

haha after reading this i helped contributed to the decision to move my forum to another board and make a heap of other changes

38. Don't use other people's graphics on your forum without permission

39. Not Have 2 admins (HOLD ON BEFORE ALL THE PEOPLE START YELING!) i would suggest having 2 admins ONLY if the person Is a person that you know and trust. having 2 admins is great if one feels like going on vacation or is quite busy, the other admin can carry the weight.

40. Not Knowing your software. If there is a bug on your forum or something with the MODs isn't working, a good amount of the time you should be able to fix it yourself if you are one of the admins. There is nothing like joining a board, post for a while, encounter a bug, and having the admins take months to fix it.

41. Not Rewarding your members, members like to be rewarded, this one isn't a NEVER but it will help you if you reward them
