I think Facebook advertising is the most effective kind of advertising. I have tried Facebook ads and I was really happy with the conversion.

I’ve found Facebook ads to be nice, but not really bring in people that stick enough. Likewise using more targeting aspects (lookalike audiences if you import your member’s data) to bring in higher results since it’s far more targeted.

In all honesty, if you're trying to gain traffic for a forum, I think forum ad space is what you should go for.

Niche forums, general forums and closely related forums are what I would target.

Buy ad space on them. Run campaigns. Work it out with the forum owner.

Two benefits:

1. You're helping a fellow forum owner
2. You're targeting an audience that likes forums

You can place ads on social media all day long but in the end, you're targeting people who prefer to remain on social media. Social media is doing everything it can to lower the ranking on external links and keep people on social media.

I bet you anything if you fine tune it, you'll have better luck advertising on forums than anywhere else.

Well , this totally depends on the kind of audience you are targeting, the Facebook ads is a really effective advertising method which would help you generate more leads to your site or whichever cause you are advertising for. It had helped me too even with my affiliate marketing.
