Well, I decided to post this because I felt like it is time to share my story of how I came interested in computing, what I've done, and what my future is going to consist of. First of all I'd like to introduce myself, you may call me 'Andrew'. I am currently 15 years old and my core interests are Computing, Security, and Networking. But how did I get interested in it? Well, it started when I was about 12 years old, the age where I played Xbox 360 along with a good amount of people and as some may probably already know, I was a 'modder'. Something I hate to say but yes. It was where you basically exploited the game to cheat or use certain patches to your advantage, and I wanted to create a 'custom' mod for a game, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. To do this I had to learn programming, the language was C++. After I gained a knowledge of it (took quite awhile to learn considering I barely even knew where to start) I did what I wanted and then I realized how stupid it was really and then I started getting into computers more and more from then on.

After that, I started learning and taking an interest in hacking, but I never did anything illegal of it cause I was fully aware of the consequences that followed along with it so I claimed myself as a White Hat Hacker (for those who don't know, it's the type of hacker who doesn't do it for malicious purposes). That is when I started getting into forums and online discussions boards. Every day I'd normally wake up, go to my computer, and start away with my day and blocked out a good part of my social life which I think was somewhat good but was also somewhat bad. It was then I decided to take a break from all of that to spend time with family and friends and gain that part of my life back because I missed it greatly. I then decided to 'moderate' how much time I'd spend with my family/friends and on the internet. Once I started doing that (around 13 y/o then...) is when I started maturing more and wanted to get out of the 'hacking' area, so I then became interested in Webpage Publishing (Design & Development) as it was fun and something very interesting to do as a personal project. I then started up many forums, sold them, closed them, etc.

At the age of 14 I pretty much started learning more and more about computers, how they work, what security actually is, etc and started working by repairing computer remotely over the internet. Now at the age of 15 I've done the same thing but I am now even more interested in security, I plan on becoming a security consultant for an IT company and if somehow that fails which is not likely to happen but my backup plan is to become an IT Manager. Here soon I am planning on getting my certification in CompTIA Security+, this is a certification course that is widely used all over the world by many and major companies such as Microsoft and Apple. Just in case someone wonders there is not an age requirement for this course/test - (Proof). The point of me sharing my story about how I've gained my knowledge under this and why I did is important for me to share because I want others to know that no matter how young you are has nothing to do with the impact of your knowledge within a certain area. I've put up with criticism for a long time because where I am young and my knowledge on these things, but as I told the people who said things like that to me, do I really care? No. No one should as it is your life, live it the way you want it to be not anyone else has a say on what you should be.

That's pretty much it leave your comments and stuff below and I'll get back to it soon 🙂

Thank you for sharing your story with us. Do you have an online portfolio?

At this moment in time no as it would not serve a purpose for me at this moment.

It's something me and my friend have been discussing about for a while though.

I'm glad you have a plan all planned out at your young age. Planning ahead is great and accomplishing your goals is another great thing.

So with that I just want to say that if for some reason you don't succeed at what you plan on doing, do not get discouraged. A lot of things happen for reasons we don't yet know but we will in the future.

Best of luck in your future endeavors.

At your age I was too busy eating junk food and staying up all night playing video games. I admire your passion and having a nice plan for your future at such a young age. Don't be discouraged by others, they're jealous that you HAVE a plan and have a useful skill set. Keep on going because the older you get, nothing really changes. Many adults still act as if they are still in High School. So just keep learning and planning and great success will follow.
