@Ashley "all over the place": It's not all over the place. And no, it's not an advert. I usually block advert son web sites.
Depending on what "taking a site seriously" means, it may have different answers. If you're saying I don't show to the people the feel I work 24/7 on the site, then no, I don't show that feel simply because it's not true! I have many other things to do other than n.irc.su, I have more 3 sites, plus a blog, and also some software to develop, along with two twitter accounts I like to have updated - to not talk about real-life things that don't handle with internet, which are much, much more than this.
@Raymond "Does Facebook say their are doing it for fun?": No, they take their job seriously because their site values BILLIONS! But, n.irc.su is non-profit, so, what do you expect from running a site not to get profit other than simply the fun of doing it?
And anyways, n.irc.su's goal is not to mimic Facebook, Twitter, MySpace or whatever. It's goal is not to compete with Facebook or any other site. As you can see if you access the site, both networks runs apart from each other without colliding, and we even provide Facebook and Twitter login in order to be more easier to the people without a "normal" account to log in and see what's going on inside, and perhaps participate. We aren't agains other social netowrks... can't people simply have account on various networks instead of just one? There are much people that have an account on Twitter, MySpace and Facebook at the same time. There are even services to let all the accounts be synchronized.
I hope I have answered your posts. If you have more questions or comments feel free to say, feedback is good! 😉
