New Forum.. what are tricks to promote it

I just started my own community forum and would like to know some helpful tips in order to improve visitors to it. I would like advice from pro here.

Reach your target audience, simple as that. Spend some money advertising on websites that target your audience + offer great content and discussions = winner.

karoshio mentioned great points there. You should know who your target is; by this I mean people who will be most interested in the content of your site. Then you will need to think of how to get their attention, how to invite them to the forum, and how to make them stay around.

For new places you may first want to spread the word about your forum in various places, like advertising forums like FP included, but also to spread the word at places where your target can be found.

Next is research, I think, of what kind of content will be most interesting for the members of your forum.

This depends how much you spend on advertising, anything below 100$ will get you no where.

I just wanted to say this because you don't want the OP to go out and start doing random advertising campaigns for like <50$...

there are lots of ways, one way to promote it is SEO and submitting to search engines.
