Actually, with SMF, all you have to do is upload the mod and hit "Install Mod". It's not like the old phpBB where you have to hand code everything. I don't see adding mods as a bad thing, as it lets you customize everything exactly for what you need.
SMF mods are updated constantly, as is the software itself. There are a number of custom post mods. I've been using SMF for four years now, and it gets updated continually. That means you can continually update with more features for your forum. And in this case, no, I don't think just using a different software than everyone else is an attractor.
No, I don't see anything wrong with adding MODs either, but like I said, acquiring them can be somewhat difficult. If SMF is different from phpBB3 (as far as adding schemes and MODs), then one day I might give it try, but I'm not going to start over because someone doesn't like the layout. I'm going to continue with this because that's what I'm used to. With the exception of a few months, I've used this software since 2004. Also, if you have to pay for vB, I would think it would look better then what it does -- even phpBB3 looks better than that. 😉
I've also changed the default theme to a Christmas theme to make it less boring -- eventually I plan on changing the banner though.

Wow, a lot of competition for forum activity -- threads get moved around quite a bit in here. I won't give up though -- my goal of at least 10 to 15 posts a day is still feasible. 🙂
Well, NFF has a YouTube channel, but when I signed up on YT 3 years ago, I was only going to use the account to look at Japanese videos, but I realize now with the competition to get website and forum activity it was time to put some clips. I was tested out the editing software so they're not much to look at. However, I will try my BEST to upload something every week. Hopefully, I can see some of you people there. If you want to see the channel, come to NFF to find out which channel it is. 🙂

Well, I finally managed to get back into the Alexa Rankings after about 3 or 4 months of not showing up. Although not much to scream about compared to other forums, but now I'm getting 400 to 500 views everyday instead of 200 to 300. People are looking but not registering. Come and join us. 🙂

Most forums would have given up by now but I'm not going to do that. Even if I get two or three more active members on NFF, I will be satisfied with that. Reaching 10 to 15 posts per day is an attainable goal I think. I will answer any question you may have about the forum. Come and join us! 🙂
Well, I haven't bump this thread in over a week. Been busy doing other things so I haven't gotten a chance to update the site much. I'm still open so people are more than welcome to sign up and post. Any questions, feel free to ask. 🙂

Wow, finally cracked the 200-post mark after being open since April 2009. I'm not giving up though. I would like to see more people at least viewing the board and making more comments about it.
Google and Yahoo come by often and view the site, but the majority of the views either come from other places -- most of them are spambots, I would imagine. As you can see, there is only a 17.7% member usage. I hope to get that to 25% or even 30% someday. I hold most of the member views (about 20,000 right now, I have 15,000) -- about 70%, so I hope to drop that rate as well.
Views have slowed a bit since last week when I was averaging about 600 to 800 daily. I'm trying to keep posting updated, but there's only so much I can do by myself. However, there are 2 other members now that view the board besides myself. I hope this is a sign of things improving soon. 🙂
