Obvious to others but not to me

That a lot of people didn't like my previous ex wife. I didn't see how. I had such a positive view towards her that I couldn't see her toxicity for the longest time. It only really came out months before we separated.
I always operated under the assumption that everyone researches topics for fun, learns, and challenges their own views for better or worse to ensure they are informed.
I had to learn over the course of the last decade or so that this is not the case. I am still having it explained to me.
I spend a lot of time on research, whether it's for work, personal interests, voting, or whatever else.
I've come to realize that this is not normal and most people make decisions without researching, asking others, etc. I have seen this play out in so many ways.
It seems obvious now that not everyone is interested in it, but I guess I was surrounded by people who do, so I just assumed that people would always take time for big decisions.
I don't mean small choices here & there, and i understand sometimes big decisions must be made quickly.
I was always baffled to hear silence when asking people why they chose to do X, Y, Z or why they believe A, B, C.
Sometimes I might not get that someone is messing with me or joking. This happened the other day, one of my coordinators was messing with me at work and I thought she was praising me for the work I done lol. I didn't realize what she meant until a few minutes afterwards and I felt dumb lol.
