We have so many pictures and videos in our archive such that we use it like a photo album. Since the folders are dated when uploaded, all we do is to add a suffix that would describe the event. For example, we attended a birthday party yesterday, the name of the folder would be 2017_05_15 Bday of Nico. An organized archive would be easy to search for a particular photo or video or any other file for that matter.

I don't have many pictures on my computer at all. 😵. I find the same issue for work related files, though. I always just put them in specific folders (eg: "Seattle Data System Update"), and use subfolders as needed.
