I don't know if everyone knows this but .org's stay in America while .net and .com's go global. The rest of the other country's have something different to .orgs. Pretty sure this is right.

I don't understand? As in .org domains can only be used by US websites.

As in searching on International Google sites etc ranks low. Although organizations anywhere in the world may register org domains, many countries, such as Australia (au), Japan (jp), Argentina (ar), Bolivia (bo), Uruguay (uy), Turkey(tr), Somalia (so), Sierra Leone (sl), Russia (ru), Bangladesh (bd), and the United Kingdom (uk), have established a second-level domain with a similar purpose under their own ccTLD.

I heard many do not use .orgs overseas and just .com and .net with their own first level domain. :shrug:

I hear it alot on forums and see it on international Google searches but heres one forum link with alittle discussion of it back and fourth.

This guy sums it up "Based on the stats, .org is known to international users. It is low down on the domain choices as most international (outside the USA) markets tend to focus on the local country code top level domain (ccTLD (.ie, .uk, .de etc). The typical international domain order is ccTLD/.com, .net, .org, .info, .biz. In the EU, the .eu would hover between .org and .info in terms of registrations.

Well, I'm Australian, and I know and use .org and .org websites, and .org.au websites.

We don't have something "different", it's just we recognise .org's are best kept for organisation websites (we're required to provide evidence of being an organisation if we register the .org.au extension).

If it's a purely Aussie website, then we most likely use .com.au or .net.au, and then if it's a reasonably large site, then they probably also have the .com.

But plenty of novice internet users will know the .com.au is indeed Australian, and will probably think of that before the .com if they are accessing an Australian website.

Yeah, I've seen it being used north and south of the border.. It's actually a very popular domain here for most websites, although like Fergal said, it's generally for charities and such.

I've never heard of that before! I suppose sites like Wikipedia change in other countries then, as it has .org.

As others have stated, it isn't true. Any country can register a .org address... that is why it is considered a true TLD.

.org isn't just for charities or people who give things away for free. A lot of churches around here use .org websites. I know of 2 churches just in this city I am in that has a .org site.

.org is not just for the USA. That's for sure. Anyone can use it and also for commercial purposes to their likings.
