Hey mates, this is the UIL contest we had This marching season. I am on the bottom right, the drum major. You can hear my name called in the beginning because I am the drum major... I don't think it uploaded the full video though.
That's really very impressive, I admire people who take part in this kind of stuff, it takes a heck of a lot of practise and dedication from all members. I used to run a dance troupe of around 30 girls and each week we would compete against other teams, it was a logistical nightmare if anyone was missing, having to re organise and remember places and timings. I understand the the importance of timing, formation and technical skills, I also understand the bond you get from your team mates and the adrenalin of competing. I really wished we had more clubs at school to join here in the UK, there's no cheer-leading, band practise, glee or anything to be honest, just chess club, rugby or football. Well done, I hope you do well and wish you all the best for the season. 😉
I agree, we have a "No Pass No Play" law from UIL, meaning if someone fails a class, they cannot participate in the UIL competition. So it was hectic filling holes and redoing the form..
That's a great job, 1st division is something to be really proud of. :cheer:
I used to have a rule that if a member failed to turn up for a weekly practice then they didn't get to dance at the weekend as places were already set, I would waver this rule if they had pre-arranged to be absent with good reason. The nightmares started if they had shown for practice then got taken ill at the weekend, only having one or two hours before the competition to restructure and pray people remember the changes is horrible. Actually I found that my girls danced better under the pressure
There used to be marching band competitions at some of our carnivals and when we were finished dancing it was fun to go and watch them, ours had baton twirlers too. I'm sure you will have come across situations where the field you are marching in is slightly lumpy or on a gradient or the heavens have opened up as you are parading? Heck we like a challenge hey?
Yeah that sounds like it sucks, I mean you are punished for not being so hot at maths or something? Not everyone excels in all subjects, you should be rewarded for the subjects you do well in but extra activities should be encouraged purely for the health benefits alone.
Thank you 🙂 I can't believe youtube didn't upload the other half :\
During marching practice we fix forms and moves, we manage music. Help out people find their spots when learning a show, and make sure everyone stays ok.
We also are on a ladder. There are 3 of use on 3 diff. ladders, one on the left, center, and right. We get on our ladder during a show and conduct the band, by moving our arms keeping the tempo.
