Other means of promotion Besides promotion forums?

Okay, there are loads of promotion forums out there, but there is no way that any one person can join all of them! I just sent out an email to some of my contacts on MSN, telling them about our site. I know email is one way of promotion, but are there others? Ways that don't involve joining up with promotion forums? Because promotion forums are way too much work, and I don't really care for post exchanges or package requests, although those do help. Any suggestions?

By the way, I will be active on here as one other select promotion forum, but other than that, they just aren't as helpful in the long run in my opinion.

Well there is always what you can hope for Is word of Mouth. If i see a cool forum with alot of work i spread it around Twitter FB myspace It can get around

Twitter, Facebook, Autoclick, Link referral etc. I have gained alot of hits/members from these

I use Facebook to promote.

I use Twitter and also other forums within/related to my niche.
For example, I run a business forum so spend a lot of time on other business related forums and webmaster forums (at the end of the day if you make money from your site you are running a business...)
