Overall Guide to Having a Successful Forum/Community

@orc_dragoon
I'd be glad to, if someone can provide me with the info to add 😛

I haven't used MyBB much honestly. I could PM Gimgak about it I suppose, he uses it for his free hosting forum.

Well, i juat repped. great guide, and i checked rotting's guide as well. But, i wanted to ask you since you understand it, and rotting has dissapeared, lol ...

i started putting the text link with my linked imgae underneath. now, i didn't understand, is it better to have you forum link tezt, OR rename the text, into what you want to be found on google.

i use "Find Super Smash Brothers Brawl Opponents, Now!" .... should i be using that over my text link.

if you type in find brawl opponents, i come up #1 ... but i always get plummeted when i spell out SSBB, should i start using the full title, and mask it over my text link

like this ...

Find Super Smash Brothers Brawl Opponents, Now!

^^ use that above my linked image, then still have my text url under my linked image?

It's better to have your forum text link renamed to the keywords you want google to index for example: "Google" would use "Google" as their text link, which bots index. The image doesn't really matter for bots, but it's good for humans, it attracts them 🙂.

I would personally put my text link first, so it's guaranteed a index.

»MyBB
-MyBB makes use of AJAX to enhance its features
-MyBB's inline moderation makes management easier
-Extensive permissions allow for complete control
---------------------------------
-Can be hard for a new admin to update
-Is not widely used, smaller support
-Security patches the slowest

"-Can be hard for a new admin to update"

Of course it is. With every new forum software you use, it takes time getting use to updating it and so on. But from my experience, it's not hard at all. If you have any trouble with it, there's plenty of tutorials and even the Mybb wiki that explains how to.

"-Is not widely used, smaller support"

I do find this sorta true but Mybb is growing pretty well. As for the support, it's better than most other free forum software.

"-Security patches the slowest"

Pretty much. You know why? Because there really hasn't been alot of exploits for Mybb unlike other forum software. The most recent one was about 1-2 months ago(going off memory). But it was patched fast.

Thanks.. by the way using blogs really helps get ur forum high in the list when browsing it on google
