Overstaffed

4 Admins, 5 Mods.

Please, don't go "OMG, you're WWWAAAAAYYYYY over staffed!"

I heard.

What I want to know is, what is an appropriate number of staff for a forum of my size, both Admins and Mods?

I don't think it's so much of a case as over staffed. More of a case with what you feel is enough for your forum. I'd say 2 Admins and 4 Moderators, just my opinion though.

Yeah, the 4 admins thing may need to be reduced, Zezima.

I have me, only as an admin, and 5 mods. But, they're all very much needed. It's not even about moderating the forum, they're just excellent help in keeping members entertained in the community; and helping each new member get adjusted when they just join the forum.

It all depends how many trouble makers etc you get. I only have 4 admins and 5 mods but I have 340,000 posts and 2,500+ members. If your staff is online a lot then you don't need many. Maybe 2 admins 3 mods for a forum your size.

Personally I dont think there is anything wrong with being overstaffed. Its also a matter of opinion. Do you personally feel your overstaffed?

I say you are not overstaffed but I think you should remove one member from each group.
You are only overstaffed if you have a small forum and have mor ethan ten staff on your forum and if you have a big forum with more than eight-teen staff you are overstaffed.

The problem alot of forum owners have, is they feel they're gonna hurt a friends feelings by not giving them a staff position; and they do go overboard while doing that.

You just need to think, really hard, about who DOES contribute as a staff member. "Do they try and welcome EVERY new member" ... "Do they help keep the forum progressing by adding to discussions, even if they don't care on the subject?" ... Or, "Do they really help keep the forum in check, and not using power, just because they have the authority"

Believe, it's hard having to remove a freind/member from staff. But, if they're not doing anything to contribute to the forum; there's really no place for them on staff.

I totally agree with Hcf..

A board your size, should have 2 Admins MAX and 3 mods or so..

You NEVER want more than 2 admins on any forum, unless you know them either in real life or exclusively well.. You cannot trust that many people with Admin access on a site.

For your site, i'd have 1 admin and 1 or 2 mods.

Well for your forum, i would say.. 2 mods including yourself and 3 moderators
