Do you use patterns on your designs? For instance: striped backgrounds, grunge backgrounds, etc.

I usually have a pattern SOMEWHERE on my website...where, though, just depends on my mood 😛

I haven't recently, but I did back in 2009. I actually made a sprite like star and then made it repeat itself and I ended up with a cool background design.

Using patterns the way you did in that banner is one way to use patterns, but you can also use them without them hardly being visible as they add layers and depth to the image that your eye picks up but doesn't even think about. It makes the image more interesting to look out even if you don't know why. The same thing happens if you add a slight glow under a line even if the glow is only on 4% Opacity and 20% Fill.
