Well i want to know your opinions on people who open forums and like 2 weeks later they close it down, open another and repeat the process. Sometimes they make a forum, hire staff and get the forum semi-populated with posts and close it before they even open it. (i was staff at a particular persons forum who did this)

What are your opinions on people who do this? 🙂

Thay bug me and it really isn't a good thing to do 😛
(even though I'm one of them 😀 )

They should never have owned forums to begin with 😀

It's very annoying. This has only happened to me at one forum before, but I was damn annoyed. I'd contributed over 100 posts to the site aswell, they launched, and closed two days after. Man was I pissed. 😛

I'd only be annoyed/upset if I really liked the forum, saw potential in it and wanted to commit a good chunk of time posting there.
Otherwise, meh.. no big deal.

I would be mad if I joined a forum and they did this I don`t think I would join another forum they made because I would not trust them not to do it again

I used to be really bad at this when I first started out, and it was the exact cycle that the original poster said. Not so much the hiring staff, but going on a posting/promoting spree and then giving it up straight off the bat. Now days, it annoys me, because this is the first forum I've been able to keep open for longer than two weeks, and really, if you can't make up your mind, perhaps you should try holding off on coming out with a forum at all until you're more mature enough to actually run a site.

It's usually new forum owners who think just because they create a forum and advertise it one time, it should get a million posts the first day.

But it can take months for a forum to grow so new admins need to realize this before starting a forum

Or they may enjoy...

Opening forum 1, closing forum 1, opening forum 2, merging forum 1 database with forum 2, close forum 2, open forum 3, merge forums 1/2 database with forum 3, etc...

...So by the time they start their 100th forum they have like 142,584 posts, 2,435 topics, 482 registered members and 1 active member 😛

I LOL'd.

It's annoying though, I think some people just like creating new forums for the heck of it and have no real dedication to make it into something worth while.

It is sad if you ask me,because alot of times the domain name and website name can be really useful. Heck alot of times I see huge potential in some of these newer sites and within 2 weeks the owners give up...

Generally people start a site if they are inspired with another successful site. And they want their site to be so successful, quickly.
When they find its not happening, they simply close their Forum.
People should understand, developing a successful forum will take a lot of efforts and time.

Well I do this a lot but its just my mood swings. At some random day I don't feel like administrating at all anymore. After a week or two later I want to start this new forum. Its just a habit I have. I don't plan on starting a forum again though.

This really bugs me i am sick of joining forums that keep opening and closing just because the forum is not active enough for the admin.
This is why i have started joining only forums with good activy and enough members to keep coming back.

A forum takes a good two years to really take off the ground if it has not by then, then give up on it well thats how i feel not sure how many people would agree with me on this.

I think some try to open a forum within a genre that is overly saturated and give up when they don't get hundreds of members and a full forum.

Think before you post really gd forum moved away from free hosting to paid as a lot of people on other forums said it would be better to be on paid hosting rather than free. Which is what i did moved it but gd did not re cover after the move.

No fighting in my thread!

Is that you with Ninja Skills, ShadyX? 😛

Back on topic. @Games, you mean free host like Forumotion or a proper one like Byethost, x10hosting, etc?
