Prevalance of Autism

This is not based on a survey but only from my observation. I learned of autism when I first saw an autistic child sometime when I was in my 30s. That means there was no autistic in sight before that day. Eventually, I have been seeing autistic persons. There are 2 nephews in the family of my husband, 2 in our neighborhood and 1 autistic child of a colleague. I am wondering if autism is really getting prevalent and what causes it? If it is genetic in nature then why is it seeming to be widespread now?

This is an unresolved question frequently asked. Many attribute vaccinations, however there has been no backing to this.

I do believe it's becoming more prevalent, but it also seems quite over-diagnosed.

There are an handful of members here on FP that have autism 🙂
