I agree. If you resort to violence, then can you really say you're better?
No violence could mean a Cuban Communist takeover or having your family thrown in a gas chamber (Nazis).
Or like in Venezuela where they actually tortured citizens.
All those extremist regimes do that right or left. But the only way to keep that away is to have a middle class economy.
Republicans ought to get a taste of their own medicine and have the open SCOTUS seat stolen from them like it was stolen from Garland and Democrats in 2016. We are far closer to an election now than we were when Scalia passed away and created that vacancy, and yet Senate GOP stalled for nearly a year nonetheless.
But because that already established a precedent that is awful enough on its own, it's dangerous to repeat that same process and wait till after this November's elections. We have an election every other year, we can't get into the business of only nominating and approving Supreme Court justices in odd-number years. Justices can die, or choose to resign, at any time and leaving an open seat for an extended period of time is irresponsible.
But that's all just me ranting. The point is, Trump's nominee will very likely be seated by the end of this year. I'm slightly comforted in seeing this particularly nominee's record and the fact that he is more of a moderate, aligns with Justice Kennedy in many areas of the law, and therefore it doesn't seem like much is going to change in terms of the Court's dynamic right now. The make-up will remain largely the same, with this new nominee still being a more-moderate conservative and will likely fill the same swing-vote role that Kennedy did at times. The talk of Roe v Wade or same-sex marriage or any other landmark case being overturned by this new court is mostly media spin and speculation. They first need a case on that same issue and the facts would have to be just right, along with their ruling and opinions being just right, in order to overturn precedence. Any responsible jurist, regardless of political ideology, would be hesitant to overturn any precedence - especially at the SCOTUS level.
