We normally receive a lot of Christmas gifts from friends and relatives and it cannot be avoided that we get items in duplicates. And sometimes the items cannot be used like small appliances which we already have. So what to do? We recycle those gifts by giving them to others. But we take note so we can give to people who are not connected to the giver.

That's interesting, normally I'd give to those in need, so if I got two of the same shirts I'd donate one to a Clothesbank and suchforth with other appliances and gifts. Just feel they deserve to go to a home where they'll be needed than dumped in the closet or even given to a friend.
I would not feel good giving a gift that was gived to me. I would keep it just in case something happened to one like what MrHorror said. If I have no room or no sense of use I would donate it to a thrift store so someone can get it as a gift for someone. Donating and gifting a gift seems better for me.
People call it re-gifting. Giving someone a gift that was given to you, that you don't want for one reason or another. I don't think it's a good idea either. The only way I'd consider it is if someone sees it before hand and really wants it, and has no qualms with accepting it. Then I'd have to decide if I wanted to let go of it or not, and finally - I'd clear the new transaction with the person who gave me the gift in the first place. If everything lines up, only then would I "re-gift."
I had no rubbish or recycles to get rid of! never! I mean I tend to keep the day so so normal that there is no need to have extra crap around. But giving an gift that I had or someone else had! In my time I always go out and buy new items
