Bottom of the ninth inning, your down by 1 run with two outs. There are guys on first and second, all you need is a base hit to win the championship. You go up to the plate excited for this moment, but your hands start to sweat. Maybe your heart starts pounding and maybe your knees are shaking. Suddenly, your excitement melts so fast, you forget why you were excited in the first place.
This is a rare situation where you, the batter, only have 3 strikes to get a hit or you lose the game for your team. In this situation, there will be a lot of pressure on the hitter because if you think about it, the game is held in his hands; you decide if your team wins or loses. Scary situation, right?
That's where you have to learn to calm down and to close out your emotions. Your emotions have to equal a robot's: absolutely shut out. All you should be thinking about is the pitcher and the pitches he will throw. Now generally in the 9th inning, there will be a closing pitcher on the mound. Luckily, since they do their warm up pitches, you get to see how he pitches to batters. Watch the pitchers pattern: see how fast he throws his fastball, how nasty his curve ball or change-up's are and the pitcher's windup and delivery positions. Remember, don't even think about what will happen if you lose the game for your team, how shameful they will think of you and all that junk: that will only worsen your chances of getting a hit.
Now to the actual at-bat, this is where emotions can arise at any time, which is why you need to learn how to control it. Now remember, a pitcher will usually try to get the first strike on a fastball down the middle, a very common thing to do on the very first pitch of an AB. This is something you can take advantage of. If you see a pitch going down the middle, do not be afraid to unload on it. The worst thing you can do is hold back on a pitch you know you can handle. If you see a pitch you can hit, just swing away.
Another point to this is to never get defensive, meaning to act afraid of hitting the ball and results in not being aggressive. That's one of the worst things you can do because you will most likely not focus on hitting the pitch and instead your focusing on not getting out. Just clear your mind, focus, watch the ball and be aggressive.
Fortunately, since this is a rare situation, you don't have to worry about these kind of at-bats. In general, you should focus on trying to get a hit in every AB you have. Obviously, you will not have a hit in every AB, but to get a hit, you have to focus and concentrate hard in every plate appearance you have. You can't try to get hits only in situations that are desperate, you must try hard to get a hit in every AB you have.
Remember these important points:
- If you get a swing and a miss and you are mad at yourself for missing it, it's ok to vent a little bit. There's no point in bottling up your frustration for every strike you get. Just note that after your done venting, forget about your mistake and just focus on the next pitch
- When you have 0 or 1 strike, you can be more selective in your pitches. If you can't hit pitches in the top left corner, which is usually called a strike, than just don't go for it. First of all, if you can't handle it well, you will most likely get another strike or get out. At least you have a chance of it being called a ball. So when you see a pitch you can handle, even if it's not in the strike zone, then unload on it
- When you have 2 strikes, you have to hit anything close to the strike zone. This does not mean, however, to swing at anything. You still have to watch the pitches carefully because you will naturally become more eager to swing at the pitch and what happens is that you swing too early. Swing like you would on any AB, only increase your swinging range slightly
- Use pre-game meditation to help you be less nervous in the game. Find a quiet spot where no one will bother you, lie down or sit somewhere comfortable and take long, deep breaths. Hear every breath you take and just clear your mind. Do this for about 2-5 minutes and you will feel much better in the game. You can look at this site for more tips on breathing meditation [url]www.how-to-meditate.org/breathing-meditations.htm/[/url]
- Do not argue with the umpire at all, unless these 2 statements are true:
1) You know for sure you are right. If you're not sure, than you're probably wrong
2) It's up for appeal. If it's for balls and strikes, never argue or else you will be ejected
Generally, you should never argue with the umpire, leave that to your manager. if a strike three is called on you and you don't agree, just walk away and go and look back on how the pitcher has pitched to you.
Now to end this article, I want to give a reminder that getting angry will not help you one bit. If you ever feel angry, just a take a few seconds and take deep breaths breaths. Just think about what you did wrong and make necessary adjustments. Treat every AB like an important one, don't think about mechanics when your about to take your swing and always be aggressive.
Wii 2
Code:
The Wii 2, just another advancement in to the orginal wii, just like every other console has or will be doing.
From Xbox to Xbox 360, PS3 to the future PS4 and the DS to the DSI, the Wii 2 has been a hot discussion of what it will turn out like, what else it can do, etc. Well for starters, the look of it isn't that much different.
If you look at this picture you can see it looks just like the wii, only just in a black color. Not really what I was hoping for.
Some leaked info about it is that it has a built in blu-ray drive and can support 1080p movies and games. (more sources from that here) That's good and all, but we need a big bang to this new console. We need something totally revolutionary to bring the Wii up to where it should be. I'm not saying it won't happen, but I just don't see any staff of nintendo mentioning it.
For the Wii's sake, the Wii 2 has to be extrordinary and unique or else they will just let Xbox steal the Wii's thunder with Kinect.
What will it be: Wii 2 or Kinect?
Seinfeld
Code:
Seinfeld, one of the most beloved sitcoms in the 1990's. Today, it is probably in the top 5 for the best sitcoms ever made.
The show that has absolutely no plot, some might say it's a show about "nothing", just your good pals Seinfeld, George, Kramer and Elaine doing random things. Most of the time, they have conversations and bring up another random one in addition. It's the simplist and most unusual concept, but that's what makes it unique from the rest.
The only other sitcom that is my favorite is The Cosby Show. This show is obviously very old, but is lead by the funniest person ever to exist and his name is Bill Cosby, more info on him here: billcosby.com
Some of the famous quotes were created on seinfeld, here are just a few of them:
» "Pity's very underrated. I like pity. It's good" - George Costanza
» "Ask not what I can do for you. Ask what you can do for me" - Jerry Seinfeld
» "Now you listen to me: I want details and I want them right now. I don’t have job , I have no place to go… you’re not in the mood: well you get in the mood" - George Costanza
I can imagine this show will still air for years to come until an anti-seinfeld person comes along, but until that day, let's enjoy our past time comedy.
New Super Mario Bros for Wii
Code:
Summary:
Well, I think the beginning of the story was somewhere between interesting and confusing. The interesting part was that baby bowsers brought a huge cake, threw it on peach and just took her away. That was a surprise and defied the laws of physics: you can never be taken away by cake . However, it really wasn't much of an intro because 10 seconds after the whole thing started, the baby bowsers came and took her away. It didn't really tell me what was going on or what could have been going on. This is should not be like the old Mario games; no more bowser stealing peach for no reason, no more identical game play to other Mario games, it has to be revolutionized, and I just didn't get that from the intro. It was totally different when you actually started playing, but the beginning should bring the excitement to you, which I was disappointed in.
But then, the game really starts.
Graphics and sound:
The graphics and sound in my opinion were actually really good. I got the feeling they took the same characters from another Mario game, but even if they did, they remade it a bit. The sound worked well with each scene, but they all sounded similar to me. They have to make it REALLY different to perfectly suit each scene. However, it was still great nonetheless. The graphics were basically the traditional Mario graphics which was good, but they have to bring more to the table. Take super paper mario for instance. Compare that to Paper Mario, and there is a HUGE difference. There's 3D, it draws the map right in front of your eye and features gameplay from different characters. They kicked it up like 5 notches, and with the new super mario bros, I only felt it kicked up 2 notches. If they add something new to the graphics, it would be so much better. Remember that the old mario days are over, and even though they are like the best, we have to make em better. So my final mark is 8.2/10 (needs more feel)
Actual characters:
This part, I actually enjoyed a lot. You actually get to play as toad (and someone else like toad) and it's really unique. They all have their own special talent and I find that you need to use them at the right times to pass through a level. I find that to be challenging and fun at the same time. The type of monsters for every world could have been tweaked just a bit to suit each world, but it was still good how they separated the monsters. It did mostly give you the feeling of what to expect in the level. What I mainly found different from this super mario to the old one was the new power up of being able to throw ice. This is much different because it use to be just fireballs, but now, you can throw ice at monsters. It was awesome. So my final mark is 9.3/10 (slight tweaks required)
Gameplay and the story:
The story was what was the real problem: it's just not different. We all know bowser just wants to steal peach for no reason, but enough of that. Super Paper Mario had an excellent intro because they made you believe it was going to be like that, but it turned out to be some other dark wizard and bowser actually had to help you. That is so much different and much more unique, but this just wasn't. So I'm disappointed with the story. Now, the actual gameplay actually took over the story for the most part. It was very smooth, you had to do many different things to get through a level and featured different styles of attack. There's this one little thing that I still don't understand too well, but it brings you through the level. Now I am still confused on what that really is, but as far as I'm concerned, you basically play as Luigi, which I'm guessing you have to at some point. Now putting that aside, I wanted to bring up the multiplayer mode. This is what separates this from the past mario game. You can have up to 3 of your friends help you during the story mode, and it helps you a lot. There's also an option to fight eachother, and it's probably the cleanest multiplayer game I've ever seen because there are absolutely no glitches in it. It's very smooth and very fun. My final mark is 7.9/10 (story needs to be revised)
So my overall mark is 25.4. I think this is a great game overall, but there story really ruined the game a bit. If you don't care bout that and just like a fun game, then get it. It is truly a fun game and I think you would definitely love it.
