For most of us, SEO is difficult on a forum.

This is because it is so heavily user-contributed that not everyone will have SEO in mind when creating content.

And it's not like we can force it - that'll be one way to kill your community for sure.

So, how about a portal?

A portal is simply a homepage for the forum with predefined content on it. Many of us are trying to rank at least out main homepage on Google search and others.

It's hard to do that with a forum, but a forum with a portal might make it easier. Then you can make sure SEO-rich content gets on the homepage and the not-so-SEO-rich content stays off the homepage and remains on the main forum.

How do you feel about an idea like this? Yes or no? Why?

I manage several successful websites featuring portals. One of them is dedicated to depression awareness, where I curate a plethora of articles to aid people in comprehending this condition. As a result, the site receives substantial traffic from major search engines like Google. However, I believe the effectiveness of this approach varies depending on the website's nature. For instance, I wouldn't recommend populating a portal with content on a broad, unrelated topic for a generic off-topic site.
