Should I move my forum to the root?

Should I move my forum to the root directory? At the moment my site doesn't really get updated much, and most of my time is spent on the forum.

I would like to add a forum splash page on like here on the homepage but I know it's not possible without a sufficient knowledge of php.

What do you think? Do you think having just a forum is more unprofessional and off-putting that having it in a subfolder?

It means that when you access http://domain.com it redirects to http://domain.com/subfolder automatically.
