Info Statement Regarding the Promotion of Services Obtained By Purchasing User Accounts

In recent times it's been discussed by certain individuals that their site(s) have grown by acquiring the user accounts from a specific secondary site while that site is still in operation and without the consent of the users of that site. This is not a merger and is a breach of several data protection laws along with the terms of service and license agreement for XenForo itself. Site owners are charged with the protection of their users' data, and to so easily pass it off to another site with the aim of creating a network of sites that share this same database of users, none of whom have agreed to sign up for any of these sites that will be using their information, is an extreme abuse of that trust.

Forum Promotion took the step to remove the primary offending party and their site from our services and we have decided moving forward that we will not permit the promotion or involvement of sites involved in such a "network" moving forward. Sites found to benefit from this practice will be removed from Forum Promotion immediately and the owner of those sites may have their account banned. We take the protection of our members' information very seriously and those who engaged in this disdainful attempt to sell users down the river for their own benefit is a clear violation we could not stand for. We advise you to similarly admonish such practices.
