Description:
Introduction:
The TAGTCG is a free online trading card game designed to be played on a forum via posting, instead of having to download some type of program to play it. The cards are composed of various video game characters and items, though it's mostly Nintendo stuff.
The Cards:
These are an example of what the two main types of cards, Character Cards and Support Cards, look like:

Character Cards are given 4 Stats, H (Health), A (Attack), P (Power), and E (Equip). Health is, of course, self explanatory. When a Character's H reaches 0, it is knocked out and discarded. Attack points are used for regular attacks. When a Character Card regular attacks another Character Card, the attacking Character Card's A is subtracted from the defending Character Card's H. Regular Attacking can also yield weakness damage if the two Character Cards involved are the correct types. For example, if the Midbus card above, which is an Earth Type, regular attacked a Water Type Character Card, an extra 5 damage would be inflicted because Earth has an advantage over Water. Water then beats Fire, which beats Wind, which beats Earth. There are two other types, Light and Dark, which both beat each other. Power Points are required to use Special Attacks, which are listed in box with text on the cards. To use Midbus's Castle Takeover Special, 3 Power Points are needed, which would then leave Midbus with 0 P after it's used. Character Cards can also have a Bonus listed here, which is an effect that remains active the whole time the card is in play. A character Card can only have one Bonus, and it can only have up to two Special Attacks or one Special Attack and a Bonus. Equip points are what is required for certain Equipment Support Cards to be used on the Character Card. Midbus has 2 E, so you can equip as many Equipment Cards as you can to him as long as their total E required is 2 or less.
Support Cards have a variety of uses ranging from restoring the H of your Character Cards to to temporarily increasing their Attack. They also come in three types, Instant, Equipment, and Continuous. Instant Support Cards are one use cards that, after being activated, are discarded. Equipment Support Cards are of course equipped to your own Character Cards. Continuous Support Cards will remain in play, usually only as long as certain requirements are met, such as having certain Character Cards in play or paying something to keep them active. Support Cards are key to turning the battle in your favor and getting yourself out of tight situations.
There are also Location Cards, which look just like Support Cards, but remain in play the whole game and affect all Character Cards in play, rather than just your own like most Continuous Support Cards, and they do have any requirements that need to be met to keep them active. Location Cards can only be removed by playing another Location Card, or by using the Black Hole Instant Support Card.
The Game:
The goal of the game is to knock out the other Player's Character Cards, resulting in that card's W Aurora (White Aurora) being subtracted from the player's Aurora, which starts out at 2000. When a player's Aurora reaches 0, they lose. Each post you make is one round, and in each round you get three turns. Pretty much everything you can do uses up a turn, putting a Character Card into play, using a Support Card, attacking, etc. Really the only thing which does not require a turn is drawing a card. You can have up to three Character Cards in play at one time, however there is no limit to the number of Continuous Support Cards you can have in play at once.
The rules for the game can be found in the Rules section of the forum, of course, and also include instructions on how to build a deck and a sample battle so you can see how the game looks when actually being played.
How To Begin Playing:
To play, all you need to do is sign up for the forum and post in the Starter Deck thread (located in the Deck Database Section) where you will be able to obtain one of two Starter Decks for free. The two Starter decks are the Good Deck and the Evil Deck. Both decks are pretty similar when it comes to Support Cards, but the Character Cards are completely different. As you can probably guess from the names, the Good Deck has Good Character Cards, and the Evil Deck has Evil Character Cards.
Getting More Cards:
Additional cards can be obtained in a variety of ways. The first way is by buying Booster Packs and other Decks. To get credits to make such purchases, you need only to play the game. 10 Credits will be awarded to players for winning and match, and 5 to players for losing. The next way is by trading cards with other players. It wouldn't be a TCG if you couldn't trade them, now would it? The last way is by collecting Promotional Cards, which will be given out periodically. Currently, three Promotional Cards are available for our Grand Opening, and this promo will be going on for a while, probably just until we get a few more members.
Currently, only one Booster Pack is available which was recently released within the past few days. It contains mostly just cards from the two Starter Decks, however there are 12 new Character Cards, a few new Support Cards, and a new Location Card. Purchasing a new Booster Pack will yield you 8 cards chosen at random with my own card randomizer, and the cards are divided up into Common, Uncommon, and Rare. Booster Packs will generally cost 10-15 credits, so you'll only need to play a few games before you're able to buy your first one. Right now there is also a promo going on where anyone who has completed at one full battle will receive two of this Booster Pack for free!
There is also currently one Deck available, which was just released on the day of me updating this. The theme for this deck is Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, consisting of several characters from the game as well as several items and Badges. In the future there may be a Paper Mario Booster Pack, which will contain all the cards found in this deck as well as many new ones from the first Paper Mario and Super Paper Mario, and maybe Paper Mario for the 3DS when it's released. Plans for future Decks include a Mario RPG deck, which will have anything from all of the non Paper Mario Mario RPGs, a Pikmin Deck, and a Metroid Prime Deck. Decks are much more costly than Booster Packs however, costing around 40 credits, but they're constructed to be used as they are right when you buy them.
