The Review Service is Hiring!

i would love to help out a forum that i think is decent and that needs help, i love helping forums (unfortunate passion i am not even proud of anymore, i been on the computer way more than i like in the past 8 years lol)
but i'm not going to bother to try and offer my help here anymore, i feel like this place often enough only hired people they already ''friends'' / ''familiar'' with ... (not a hire method i think is always the best but whatever 😛 )so i do be wasting my time lol, i know nobody really well on here so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

anyways, good luck folks and as the k-pop idols would say; hwaiting! 🙂

Although I haven't been hired (yet...?) I don't think I come under the "friends or "familiar" categories you mention and I have been offered an opportunity. What makes you suggest they only hire in this manor?

i been a member of this place for a semi long time, since 2013 and whenever people got hired i saw often enough they were members that are popular around here , people that they are already ''friends/familiar'' with

i have tried to help out this place by applying a year ago and also before back in the day when i was ''new'' here
and i never got hired despite the fact i got tons of experience in moderating, do not misbehave and never received a single warning as far as i can remember lol

so yeah 😛 btw i am not saying all this out of resentment or anything (thoughts just came to me when i saw this thread and just felt like sharing why i am not interested anymore), i honestly do not care that i never got hired, after all, it turned out in me making my own forum that is doing ''ok'' and whether they deny or not deny this about the hiring process... doesn't matter really, they can do whatever they want and hire people however they want; if a forum rather hires people they already know than thats their right to do so.
and congrats btw, it's always nice to see a forum hire a very new person as i see you registered only couple weeks ago

Having lots of experience doesn't always translate into actual skill. Lots of experience means you spent a lot of time doing the task but doesn't necessarily mean you are good at it. It is possible to have lots of experience doing something but still not be any good at it.

Following the rules and not getting warnings are not a virtue but an expectation for every member that everyone who is an admin or mod of this place expects from you. Don't expect to see any medals getting handed to you for it. It also means no one here owes you anything for doing what we expect from you as that is how it works here and in life in general.

You also neglect to realize that just maybe there was simply better qualified candidates in the running at the time that got the position instead of you. It is also possible that people who weren't even actively seeking after the position were offered and accepted the job even though they didn't fill out an application. Some of the good talent out there may never put in an app but would take a job if offered it as I offer myself as an example of this as I was not actively seeking the position I now hold right now. I was hardly all that active prior to a few months before my promotion nor was I really familiar with anyone here nor was anyone really familiar with me either. Not everything has to be some grand conspiracy against you.

All in all, I am hoping to see some good candidates getting hired for the job and while I am not the guy who ultimately makes the decision but it's quite possible I might be asked to give my thoughts on those who apply and I ensure you I do not play favorites and only care that the people who will produce good results and will work well with the current team get hired and any thoughts I give on any applicants will be based on genuine merit. As after all, what kind of reviewer would I be to give out faulty judgments and critiques?

@Pebbles, I personally never hire based on friendship. Sure, if I know someone has the ability, I'd hire them, but I wouldn't take friendship over if someone can prove to me that they have the ability to do the job. By not applying, means that you would rather hold a grudge against the staff for something you didn't get, just because you thought whoever was doing the hiring, was being chummy.

Believe me, I would rather hire someone who has never been staff on this forum, and someone who isn't my friend, or someone that is new to the forum; over someone who could be labeled a "friend", yet doesn't show effort for the job asked of them.

I am pretty familiar with that assumption since it is one thrown around often enough. It makes me sad people that would like to help decide not to apply just because they think we hire based on bonds rather than qualifications. But I really would like you all that feel that way to take a look at the latest hirings that have taken place.

At least regarding the RTM, I can speak for the team regarding the first half of this year, where I can recall from the top of my head two ex-review staff members that were not only first-timers in getting any kind of staff position in FP but were also relatively new to the forum. One of them, just like we are encouraging @planetinside to apply, was the way we received his application and he made it into the team. So, really. It is about your skills. If you take the application with calm and provide elaborate answers and show us your skills, you have a big shot. So, @Pebbles by all means, if you think you have what it takes to join the reviewer (or any hiring team for that matter) go for it.

I also would like to emphasize that not making a cut the first time doesn't mean you don't have any chances at all or that the staff won't look your way. Sometimes we get more qualified people than spots open. I can also recall a particular member that was close to making it twice before he actually managed to get hired in. If you do a good application and the staff thinks you are right, they will keep you in mind as long as you remain engaged with the community. If you last application was years ago, it would be great to get your updated application. 🙂

Like the gentleman before me, I would likely apply but I have nowhere near fifty posts, nor have I been a member here for over one month. My grammar is good and my writing style, while conversational and upbeat, can be very toned and professional if need be. My biggest fear I think would be my ability to commit to timelines as I love to write but only when I feel like it. As soon as I get blocked into deadlines, something starts to just wither up and die and then it starts to feel like true labor and not of love. If I happen to write something and make a dollar or two from it, great, but I don't know that I will ever be able to turn my writing into something I could sit down to and do each day as a job. I give credit to anyone who can churn up meaningful words about anything and everything on a daily basis, it must take an incredible amount of determination and imagination combined.
Hi, @Jayze.

First of all, I think it is great you are interested and while you don't feel you fit the requirements yet, I am sure if you enjoy the community they will be covered in no time.

Just in case there is any confusion, I'd like to clarify that the position is unpaid. This is a volunteering position to help fellow members of FP. The FP$ currency is just a virtual currency in the forum that you gain mainly via posting around. So a lot of the motivation for the position is the desire to help fellow members, give something back to FP.

Regarding the concern about committing to deadlines, I think I can relate to where you are coming from. Burnout comes at different paces for different people and for us communication is key. The workload is not very heavy around this time, with just a few requests at the time for official reviews so you can pace yourself to make quality reviews without feeling you are just churning words from one request to the next. Also, if you do get hired you'd have another team member around, so it is not all the weight just on your shoulders.

So all in all, I would recommend you that if you feel inclined for the position to keep an eye on this thread and once you get at least one of those requirements you are missing, to send your application and give yourself a try being tranquil that once chosen in, if for any reason you feel it is not working for you can always talk things out. If you are responsible and keep in touch with the team (especially your director) things should work out fine.

Lastly, to everybody thinking about it, once again I'd like to point out that usually there's only one position open at the time. Right now given the atypical circumstances there are three spots, so if you ever fancied being part of the Review Team it is one of the best opportunities you got to make the shot. So don't think it too much and send that PM. An app in is a better shot than no app at all.

I wish you good luck to everyone of you that applies.

btw, I'm still waiting to hear any feedback from my application.

The applications including yours are still in discussion and I don't believe there is anything as of now to report on in regards to any of them including yours. I am sure Joshua Farrell will get back to you when there is something that needs discussing in regards to it.
