It would be the fact that these sites like WordPress.com Blogger.com Forumotion.com Jcink.com are massively powerful domains, so if you have a subdomain linked to them, you got quite a bit of search engine juice. In fact, the domain authority and trust would already be high - you would just have to work on the page authority.

Anyway, I know at least one site getting massive traffic simply cause the owner has linked out quite a bit, made tons of material, and is already on a subdomain of WordPress.

Can this be the same for ProBoards subdomains too? I did know before that forums made with them are SEO-ready the minute they're set up, and had been really effective for those that had one. I'm not seeing that with Jcink though :shifty:

Yeah, sort of parasite-ing and hijacking big names was a way to sneak to the top without years of building authority. Anyway, not sure if it works much now - even for low competition niches. However, I'm just making a guess.

Should be an option to have your own domain. There are others that are free that has an option to add your own domain to use.

All those sites have that option, but probably a lot of users don't want to shell out for a domain name - reasons being money or they just don't care about it.

even that it doesn't cost allot to buy an domain

Some people just simply can't afford to pay for it. That's the reason that there are free hosting companies out there. Yeah, there are some free hosting companies that give you the option to upgrade your forum so that you can have a domain name along with some other benefits. But like I mentioned, some people just don't have the money for it.

Well, the cheapest domain names seem to be .bid, .win, and a few others I think. Those you can get for 5 years for 5 dollars (around that). However, though, some might prefer a sub-domain to those.
