BBC said:
Angry residents in Milton Keynes blocked the driver of a Google Street View car when he started taking photographs of their homes.

Police were called to Broughton after residents staged the protest, accusing Google of invading their privacy and "facilitating crime".

Councillor John Bint told the BBC the camera mounted on a car was intrusive and people should have been consulted.

Google said it observed UK law and only filmed from public areas.

The company also said it had consulted various police forces and provided the means for residents to have their home removed from the service.

Personally I find this absolutely ridiculous. I don't get why people can't tell the difference between walking up to a house and staring at it...and Google's car doing the same thing. In the article, a local says is "Facilitates Robbery", but that's not true at all. Okay, so you can check out the layout of a building...but anyone can do theat if they're walking past on foot.

I can see why some may find this an invasion of Privacy, eg: Taking pictures on "Litter collection days" but there's absolutely no need to stage a protest against something that's perfectly legal, cleared with the local police and when you consider they let you remove your house...it makes the entire situation even more silly.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Google are fine in what they're doing? Do you think Google's "breech of privacy" is far too extensive and the service removed? Do you think we're being let down by typical Brits complaining over what's actually a very useful tool?

Discuss.

I saw this on the TV not so long ago. I can understand why some people are getting angry about it but to be totally honest if it was me I wouldn't really be bothered.

I think some people have the fear knowing that millions of people could be looking at them and they don't even know them.

I heard them talking about this on the radio a while back, especially in Southampton where I used to live (I still listen to the local station there even though I now live in Falmouth, Cornwall) as that is one of the cities with the google street cam present.

There was mixed feelings about it, some people said it was ok as long as they did actually blank out the things that should be private e.g. car numberplates, peoples faces, etc.

Others just thought it was completely outrageous and an invasion of privacy.

Then finally you had the radio presenters joking about it to lighten up everyone's moods

The difference between anybody coming up to your house and looking at it and looking at it online is that online is much more convienent, and the person doesn't even know it. I have no problem with the way my house looks in the Google cam, except the empy garbage pail is leaning over -roll-

I think it is absolutely hilarious that people are standing up to it, in a good way -D- I think it is perfectly fine, but what do we know? We are only mere plebs and the almighty Google that we pray to everyday is the ruler of the waffles and chocolate, I want some waffles -🙁

I can see points from both angles on this argument but Google are willing to remove houses by request. They aren't doing anything wrong really.

Some people are only happy when they are moaning or protesting.
