US Currency: Pennies/Nickels Worth Keeping?

This is due to inflation, so removing the penny would not solve the underlying problem. It's confusing to everyone to not have a unit of currency worth "1". Maybe we just need to multiply the value of a dollar by five (by decreasing the number of dollars in circulation. This can be done by not printing new money and waiting a while, as bills fall apart over time) so that a penny will be worth a nickle's worth of goods again.
 
Well even though the motion was passed around a year ago, Canada has finally gone around to getting rid of pennies and melting them down.

Synthetic paper? Wouldnt that mean no money smell?. :/
 
Pennys aren't really worth keeping economically, but at least they aren't made out of mostly copper anymore, so they aren't as expensive as they used to be. Nickels are definitely worth keeping.
 
Like Cosmic said, it is all due to inflation.

Personally, I don't see a use of the penny. It would be hard to part with the idea, but we would not be the first country to do so.
