Vbulletin 4.0 is going to cost even more

The reason for the increase in price is that you won't have to pay for updates. So once you buy the owned license, you're good for life until vBulletin 5 comes out.

Well its not too bad, like shotgun said that makes it seem worth it

so about 12 to 18 months then -razz-

I am sure the price went up last time there was a big vb release... Might have been 3.7 possibly.

However upgrading to vB5 will cost extra when it's available

Which is a bit of a catch, also there is a count down of 30 days of free support when you submit your first support ticket, after that it costs to get support.

Pricing themselves right out of business if you ask me and no one is by the way. I do not see how there are so many V Bulletin boards out there they are extremely hard to work with and its their way or the highway. They act as if they have the monopoly on forum software. I have tried several times to work with them on paying for the software in another form of payment and its always a no go. Further, their website says one thing but if you e-mail them and ask about it you get a totally different response. I would not have it now if they offered it to me for free!

Exactly. When you consider their already gargantuan prices and the fact there's a recession on, they couldn't have picked a worse time to increase their software price. In these dire financial times people are looking to save money wherever possible; whether it be cheap web hosting, cheap domains and open source software.

Although Jelsoft have firmly cemented themselves as providers of (let's admit it)...a quality forum software, I don't think they're doing themselves any favours by pulling this stunt. I'd imagine the guys are phpBB are loving this.

Unless they are going to add some brilliant "must want" features, i can't see this price rise going in their favour.

I've always been a big fan of vB, so i'm looking forward to see what vB 4.0 will offer 🙂

Oh don't get me wrong here I have always liked it but they are impossible to work with when ordering the software. They do not seem to realize everyone does not have a paypal or credit card account. Wire transfer in my book is just to, well, lets say dangerous.

i think that it will be worth it. vb is trying to compete with other free forums including mybb and so on. there trying to hit the high notes with there fancy new styles and more mods. to be honest... i cant wait!! -D- -D-

Don't believe they can do it and continue to go up in price. I mean the software is good but not everyone can afford $200 for software. One question though, does anybody know if there will be a lease offer on Vb 4?

If you need to save some money, go with mybb or even phpbb3. I don't see this helping Vbulletin, especially at a time like this in the recession. I suppose if Vbulletin added some "innovative" features to it's software, but people have a hard enough time running the current software floating around (IPB, phpbb3, MyBB etc). It will be intresting to see the new features and enhancements of Vbulletin 4.0.

If you read the 1st post it will give you all the information about leased licences. -😉-

$200: Lol vBulletin, good luck with that. Never been a fan (not just because of the price, but partly) but this will just help Open Source (free) projects like phpBB, SMF, and MyBB expand their user base even more ~cool~

It's only a $15 increase, if you could afford the original price you should be able to afford an extra $15.

I don't see this having an effect on phpbb, etc though, people just won't upgrade their boards. look at digitalspy, digitpoint still using 3.6.x

It would be really nice to not pay for the updates.
