Yes i used to get the wooden spoon, spanked, clipped across the ear, and put in my room (after a spanking).
I think spanking is ok. But i think if you can find a way to make your kids behave without the contact then good. ie one of my teachers said they used to roll up their kids sleeves and the kids knew they were in trouble and had started crying before the smack. (that obviously needs some contact to train that sort of thinking, but not after they understand the meaning)
But i also don't think it always makes a difference. I'm 18 and i have been in trouble from teachers twice today and not even cared about the consequences. I think punishment brings about an immunity to it as you become numb to it effects. Like the teacher threatened to call my Mum and i was like "Do it".
I also think you become smarter and find your way around the punishment. Regardless of what kind of kid you are. Its the same with learning something new i guess.
I've been punished enough at my new school that i have just gotten used to it and now being my last year, our whole year group is just like, whatever, call our parents, put us in detention, because my Mum says parents will always be on their kids side and we never go to detention or if we get kept in we just walk out.
I think as you grow older you begin to realize all the scare tactics parents and teachers use and then just don't care anymore.
Offcourse as a little kid, a spank seems like your world has ended 😛
