What do you think of hijacked threads?

It's also called Derailing. It's when a member asks a question or makes comments that is completely unrelated to the OP.
Many feel it's bad etiquette. I agree with that.
Do you allow thread hijacking in your forum? What do you do when it happens?
There have been times a topic has innocently went to another topic. As long as it was minor comments & didn't continue on, I would let it go. If however the member keeps on or the topic seems like it would warrant its own thread, I will gently encourage that. Even start a thread & tag said members so the 2nd topic can be carried on.
 
There are some threads can naturally change according to the conversation. On Christianity Haven, it's bad form to purposely try to derail the OP because a person has run out of pertinent information to back up their beliefs. That's when a mod steps in to get back on track.
 
If I notice a discussion occurring in any thread that warrants being split into its own thread, I just split the content out into a new thread. Happens often when a subject comes up in a general discussion thread and unexpectedly ends up becoming large enough to stand by itself.
