What Do You Think of MyBb?

I enjoy Mybb. I don’t need a forum with all the fancy add one although that could be good too depending on the forum. I just want a forum to be able to post messages and be part of the community.
I used to think it was the best free software, but not anymore. I feel like it's outdated, the default theme isn't even mobile friendly which still confuses me why the devs never updated this. All other free forum software and even free forum hosts provide mobile friendly themes right out of the box. I have a feeling it won't be addressed until the next major update.
And yet forums using it have themes that are mobile-friendly (correct term for that is "responsive" by the way).
Anyway, I don't mind it, and had even thought about having a forum running it at one point (even when I knew about IcyBoards before that went).
All you need is to install a theme like Curves UI theme on top of MyBB.
Or don't pay for? 😉

I love MyBB.. for me it is the spiritual successor to IPB 1.3.1 and honestly if it weren't for the fact that I started to hate IPB because of their changes after the 2.3.x versions, and later on screwed their lifetime license holders, I would've gone with them.
But I am grateful that I had admins who were friends and trusted me enough to test drive their ACP's on their own hosted MyBB and IPB 3.x series forum before I made my decision.
So, I am quite happy with MyBB, not just because of the features, but also, because it is free and always will be so it really doesn't cost me much to run my community.. and because of the fact that, I was able to use it and learn more after leaving JFB, I was able to add most of the things I missed from that service, and now I am able to have a working arcade at my place since Jcink has since pulled it from his service.

It might, there's been some updates to their core software via their Github.

It is still in active development, so a developer can make a pull request and make changes to the core & add new code that'll make the theme responsive for mobile.

There are mobile themes, some put out by Community Staff as well as other members.. but I believe they are working on making sure that 1.9 is fully responsive..
I've personally started converting my themes to be responsive as well, but I did so by stripping a GNU theme of its css and replaced it with my own.. so if you are willing to get your hands dirty, you do have options..

I think SMF is much better, I would even say Discourse and NodeBB are better too since you can integrate them into the Fediverse. MyBB used to be the best free forum script, but I feel like it's really behind compared to other free options.
I don't think MyBB is in any way better than Phpbb or SMF. In my opinion, phpbb is the best.
