The main problem with freeforums.org is that they're still using PHPBB 2.0x. The Admin / Mod panel for PHPBB 2.0x is very old and outdated, and is generally not very nice to use. The same could be said with PHPBB 2.0x skins, they're normally very tacky with vast areas of empty space.

Perhaps if they upgraded to PHPBB 3.0x when the BETA version has been developed and finally released then i'll give them a second chance. Until then, i'd use http://www.uizx.com for a free forum host. ~neutral~

They rule!!

not really. They place far too many ads on your forum.

Yep, i had my first forum with them, then my m8 who had a forum with FreeForums.org suggested i move, so i did and its been good ever since! Except when they run into problems, obviously.

This is true, phpBB2 is old and outdated. However, the reason why FF.org haven't upgraded yet is because phpBB3 is still in beta. So you must be patient and wait till its full release. When we all know by then it is stable to use without any complications and unwanted results.

To be fair at the moment there is nothing wrong with phpBB3 and it runs perfectly. I have followed phpBB3 from the betas and this site has been running phpBB3 since RC2 so i have seen it improve and the bugs being ironed out. In my opinion it can be used without any complications and unwanted results at the moment and you can tell that it is an almost finished product (there are still some bugs in the bug tracker).

For paid hosting I use PC-Core. Had a rough start with them, but it's getting better.
I also have a forum on freeforums, and for a free hosting company without ads, it seems to be the best out there.

Update: I left PC-Core and went with HostGator. So far I'm very pleased. They even expedited my transfer and I was up and running within hours. No downtime. I hardly knew the transfer took place.
I cannot in good conscience recommend PC-Core.
