So I was wondering what kind of contest I should do. My forums are based on Art, and Graphic design, so asking for the best banner isn't that great of an idea. I was wondering about a kind of "Who can post the most" , but that's my last choice since it is highly unoriginal, anybody have any ideas?

Like a lineart contest? You can base something on criteria and whoever has the best art that meets the criteria wins, what? A commission from the best artist if they agree? I dunno, Im an artist myself though. 😉
Yeah, make it a certain theme of graphic art. like , base it on a new popular movie, or whatever is popular at the moment that'll catch interests.
I'm sure alot would've gotten involved with a Dark Knight/Joker theme during the hype for the new movie.
just find something that would catch your members interest.
and a post contests is ggod for activity, buty only truly works if the prizes are beneficial for that member
i have a monthly contests, and i spend about $24 a month on prizes.
How?
my forum is themed after Brawl, playing online for the Wii. and if members have a Wii, have Wi-Fi, then i am able to send them what is known as virtual console games, ranging from $5 - $10 a piece through the Wii syystsem. i pay for them, and they recieve the game in theior Wii concole. 3 winners per month, and i KNOW NOONE else does this.
that's my hook on my forum.
you just have to find something clever, and something that works with members as well.
i'm not rich, and don't bribe my members with this,. it's completely random who i choose. i even chose a new member with only 13 posts.
i'm known on other Ad Forums as the Risky Admin.
but everything i have done was worth it and paid off.

i used to run a psp group a few yrs bk snorki and we did things like ....
member of the week
the person who makes the most posts would be announced at the start of the new week and all the members would spoil them with tags and graphics that the member in question has on a preference list.
get all your members to do a list of likes and dislikes so that you all know who prefers what when the winner gets spoiled for the week.
you could ask you members to do tag offers and the tag that gets the most requests over a months period would win something.
you could set tube challenges.
this requires you to leave a tube and see what creations can be made using that tube by either adding to it or changing it somehow, but they must use the given tube.
the winner would recieve a prize.

everyone searches for and submits tags that feature or says friends.
once a month do challenges like
show us your fav animated tags, or fav tags created by talented others ect.
you could have a request forum where all your members help to fill the requests
you could have a colouring challenge.
copy some colouring pages from other sites and ask your members to colour them in using their fav programs using colours, gradients and textures.
you could have a frame challenge (much like the tube challenge)
you pick a frame and ask your members to create a tag using that frame.
colour of the day.
choose a colour and ask your members to send in tags or graphics that are or include that colour.
you could set tutorial challenges
select a tutorial and ask your members to follow it and see what results they come up with.
request a font or free pluggins is usually popular too.
make sure you only use free ones and offer this once a week, get your members to help fill requests.
