Titles are often the first point of entry. How do you balance clarity, curiosity, and SEO relevance? What makes a title both searchable and discussion-friendly?

The title should be simple and easy to read. It shouldn't be an exaggerated title with 20 words; five words that get to the point are better. However, some people add a bit of mystery to their titles, for example, "I Can't Believe Dr. Michael Did It."

This type of title usually grabs people's attention and, consequently, they'll click.

I try keep it simple first so people know what it about straight away, but add a bit of curiosity so they want to click. Like not too vague, but not giving everything away either. For SEO I just make sure the main keywords are in there natural, not forced or spammy.

Good titles are clear, easy to search, but also feel like they start a convo, not just state a fact. If people can read it and think “hmm yeah I got something to say on that”, then it works.

Your title defines your page and creates the balance. Without a clear title, the search engines won't be able to rank your site properly.

The title along with the main headings give your page the structure and balance, along with the clarity.

If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend reading Google's webmaster guidelines, as it provides everything that you need to rank properly.
  • Create helpful, reliable, people-first content.
  • Use words that people would use to look for your content, and place those words in prominent locations on the page, such as the title and main heading of a page, and other descriptive locations such as alt text and link text.
  • Make your links crawlable so that Google can find other pages on your site via the links on your page.
  • Tell people about your site. Be active in communities where you can tell like-minded people about your services and products that you mention on your site.
  • If you have other content, such as images, videos, structured data, and JavaScript, make sure you're following those specific best practices so that we can understand those parts of your page too.
  • Enhance how your site appears on Google Search by enabling features that make sense for your site.
  • If you have content that shouldn't be found in search results or you want to opt out entirely, use the appropriate method for controlling how your content appears in Google Search.

Search engines try to display exact match with their search results. If your title is descriptive, it has high chance of ranking.

I think simpler titles tend to rank better, especially when they use fewer characters. I also wouldn’t include forum categories in page titles for SEO purposes.
