What Software, Gadgets, Equipment I Need to Record My Cover Using Guitar?

Any idea on what software, gadgets, and equipment that I need to purchase to record my song cover using my guitar?

If you are recording for personal use then your basic audio card will do. Get a good microphone and you can use the Sound Recorder software. I am talking about a Windows environment. But for professional recording, perhaps you need to install a good audio card.
