I always wondered what people liked when they visit a webpage when it comes to a layout and overall navigation.

This thread I mainly created for your interest as you already know to share what type of website designs that appealed the most to you. If you could also include an image that would be great! I'm really interested to know!

It really depends on the niche of the site.

Obviously a colourful and pretty design, full of pink and purple, etc. isn't going to suit a site about a Call of Duty website and vica versa.

So yeah, just depends on the niche really, as long as it blends with the topic, then sweet, if not, then it's a turn off.

The page to me just has to have some honest flow to it. Has to be easy to navigate through it. The look of the theme should match what you topic of your forum is actually about. Many of the sites that are promoted here do have a great flow to them which keeps your members active and hanging around longer.

Flat designs seem nice!

I agree with master! I am in love with flat design right now ( And so are most designers 😛 )

DCoach pretty much got it.

I want to see a color scheme that works together, has a nice flow, shows off the content right away, etc. I'm not a fan of sliders in most cases, they're just extra fluff that most of the time isn't necessary.

I love the feedback that alot of have mentioned, I believe having a good color scheme, with a niche that flows and it all looks nice and tidy does make a really good appealing impact. I came across another design which I thought looked pretty bold, and very modern, what attracted me was that it was very savvy looking. to see which template I'm talking about click here

Lately I've been doing a lot of responsive stuff, using bootstrap's responsive framerwork to start with. From there, it just depends on what the client wants.
Flat designs are really fun to do, and I am pretty into them right now 🙂

Clean, simple and straight to the point. I think a site with a alot of clutter is a bit over whelming for the casual user. It sort of depends on who do you want on your site. Just look at Apple and Microsoft; simple easy, solid colors, and straight to the point.

Really needs to be easy to navigate as a result of it. The look of this theme need to match whatever you topic of ones forum is really about.
Most of the sites which have been promoted in this article do employ a great flow to them which keeps your users active and hanging out longer.

i dont care really
but id find websites full with flash the best
it takes time to load sometimes but they are so interactive sometimes
tis epic and pretty

I like simple, clean sites that are inventive and cleaver. and very different to other sites

The site being responsive is very important nowadays. I think all buttons, input boxes etc. should be styled nicely and have nice hover effects.

I love dark themes but most people don't!! I judge a site by it's navigation and not by it's theme as long as it does not strain my eyes.

Not so much by theme unless the colors are too bright or dark. More so layout and ease of navigation. If I can't navigate your site within 30 seconds, I'm not likely to come back.
